For me-good 'ol Bones. Sure, he's like a piece of toasted bread of some variety...perhaps a tad crusty on the outside, but warm and comforting on the inside. And ya can't beat those quips! Poor Spock. He did give as he got, though. And, Phlox, from a nurturing, gentle perspective. He's such a kindly gent; you would feel wel-cared for in his Sickbay. I woul though put Kes in ahead of the gentle Denobulan, but, technically, she was a nurse-but possessing the above qualities in abundance! Not that Bev wasn't a fine healer, or Julian a true genius....

My feeling is that her Romulan father found, after several failed marriages, that he, despite best efforts, could not bear any children..at least with a Romulan wife; due to some untreatable rare condition. However, research showed that he might father a child with someone outside his genome..with some assistance via genetic therapy. He comes across Tasha, this beautiful human who just happens to be in a, shall we say, bit of a bind...and proposes the deal that would save her shipmates-and just perhaps for our General, or whomever, provide an heir. It works-but something in the solution has weakened portions of his genetic structure, and the presumably dominant Romulan material has a flaw, yet...resulting in Yar's genome becoming that. Presto-a 'mirror' of our brave, beautiful security officer. If only she had made good her escape.....

My take is that during the period between the Tomed Incident, and TNG's ''The Neutral Zone'', a terrible plague began to ravage the Empire. Perhaps this was a great reason for their self-imposed isolation...as well as a possible contact, as I think was implied on the series, with the Borg. At any rate, the solution by the Empire's best experts resulted in one teeny alteration of the genome-a fair price to pay for survival-was the most notable change in their facial structures. Or, here is yet one more idea: the producers just pretended there was no difference...shrug. Maybe the plague originated long, long ago, during the exodus from Vulcan; those early travellers may have been exposed to some form of radiation, or such, and it was cured...only to resurface centuries later. Well, those are just thoughts. Any opinions, gang?

I have to say one thing; if a show like ''Heroes'' can recieve all this attention, and acclaim-and I do like it, as one who was in his adolescence a big comics fan-then, blast it, why not Star Trek? Yes, the 'heroes' are still people, given special gifts, and it's all Earthbound, but I wish that the general public would give any trek a chance. Maybe J.J. Abrams will finally make that happen. While I would like it if those who are criticized gets some respect-hello, Rodney Dangerfield!-I certainly don't live by the gen public's feelings. At least we all have each other-even if we don't like the same sereies, or characters. Ultimately, however...in the face of 'oppoosition'...we stand united! Keep on a' trekkin!

In any case-in the event someone reads this post, with it being older...Miles was a fine character, whatever his rank. And, as an above poster, ''Tina'' spoke of, it would surely have been neat, to see he and 'ol Scotty work a couple of miracles...would make a nice story. Liked his friendship with Julian.

Do you think there is any credence to this? It gets into some very deep waters, philosophically....are we to think that in essence, there are 'out there' in the multiverse of quantum possibility these infinite 'versions' of ourselves, who have made other choices, taken different roads, even to the smallest detail..such as having say, lasagna rather than soup for dinner...or marrying someone we fell for in school...it rather makes me feel, as if, well, then, am I merely just one more step in anendless line...it's hard to accept, given my religious upbringing, not to sound as if I am this very noble, pious soul...but some of us have that heritage within our minds...I have given considerable thought to this, and no, I have no degrees in any capacity, but I am not lacking in intellect....it's a big thing to ponder.

Hmmm...lessee....''Jetrel'' is a good one-as well as a general st ep, with its ''costs of technology'' theme. Ethan, as always, did well in that one. ''Riddles'', a definite choice, also. Another st fave. ''Mortal Coil'', while dramatic, and deeply personal, threw too much cold water on the issue of faith-something that I feel star trek has quite honestly tried to avoid, if one discounts the Bajorans; for many, it is an integral part of life. There should still be room under the trek tent for 'believers'....

On a looong holiday.....maybe Acapulco?Grin. Seriously, though, on an' official' level, who can say? Perhaps they felt that, as far as interaction with either the UFP, or the Klingon Empire, none was in the end required; they via Ayelborne knew the future that would unfold there....and as indicated with other 'higher life forms' contact with we 'puny' humanoids in the various series, they, even with any respect some might have for we fledgling species, socially, were not to 'hang out'...they may have seen that no involvement was required ingeneral. That's certainly a good sign, in that area, for how they may ahve viewed the Federation, in being able, as 'history' shows us to date, its ability to come to peace with many former enemies-such as Cardassia, and even the Founders, who, despite their severe mistrust of 'Solids', I think can eventually dare reach out... Oh-and as for the Doctor you are a fan of, have seen some of that Who on PBS. I miss Rose Tyler! She was a great gal! And I was rather more fond of Chris Eccleston in some ways. Best regards.

Okay, gang...to all those Voyager fans who are also fan-writers..how would you work with our favorite crew? Would you 'undo' certain fates of particular characters in your 'version' of STV? I can think of one whom I have done so with. And, from what I hear, my version will be differing from the offically-printed Pocket novels, sadly(and ridiculously) in another regard....

Saw a local story here in my home stae of N.C., that reaearchers at Duke University are working on a project ot bend lightwaves.....hmmm. Now, you can start thinking about avoiding those nosy neighbors...he, he.Awesome! Well..someday, at any rate.

According to an article in the now-defunct STAR TREK : THE MAGAZINE, the producers had always intended to end it with a war. Boy, did they ever. I rather felt then that maybe it went on for quite a long while..but then, in reality, war is, unfortunately, and outside of the neat, if gritty entertainment genre we enjoy, a terrible, bloody, and very hard issue...current conflict very much included. All honor, and gratitude, to every man and woman who has served in Iraq, and Afghanistan-and all those conflicts before. The ep about the siege of that relay station, and particularly its Nog-centered sequel, were strong, and standout DS9 shows...that demonstrated the cost of war. A lesson to ponder.

Yeah, it wasn't anything, ahem, as an ''attraction' thing! Meself is comfortable in his hetero-persona-but, to me, just thought the look gave him gravity, and presence...

He does seem to have survived just fine without it, I will say. And, yes, it's not so much a problem, that he doesn't have one..well, until two decades after Voyager gets home. ''Joe''...'' ouch. ''Joseph'' is okay. I am used to just the title-name. Kes I am sure would have had no problem.
