Voyager recruit

I was at the Nasa website earlier this week, going through the terrific photos from Hubble, but I did not realize it was coming up. To lose one's life in pursuing space exploration does make one a hero...and in the most hostile literal environment of all. I remeber seeing the report one morning on one of my sets...and still recall where I was, when hearing about Challenger. God rest the souls of those brave men and women...from all the flights, back to Apollo One.

Those were some intriguing viewpoints. Though I am not a huge Borg afficianado, they have of course garnered a lot of interest, and therefore analysis. It would be cool, to have seen their origins officially set on screen, though.

Me, i've never heard of it. But, for other Treksounds, there is the soundtrack for ''Generations''Some nifty, if brief,variety of audiofx there...B'Elanna could have used those sounds to play for Miral when she had a 'cranky-and-can't-sleep' spell!

If you could number those who would go back, and 'fix' things...well....there are probably as many grains on the sand of a beach....i'm waxing pretty philosophical. But then, it's almost five a.m., and I am wide awake....

If off-topic, my creative take on the Borg's origins is that their racewas, like earth, like the Vulcans, and other flawed organic species, their homeworld was engulfed in endless conflict-until a group of scientists, and experts in a burgeoning nanotechnology banded together, to do what the planet's various factions could not-and created a means by which emotion-as the Vulcans felt-were the linchpin of conflict; eliminate those, and 'voila'...a 'perfected' society.whch they slipped into the different leaders, and thus, they instituted some manner of mass-program of 'innoculation'(sure-against those nasty, pesky emotions we all carry around) and here we go, on a slippery slope....all right, then. The power blocs, thus altered in their minds, and 'harmonious', like their 2.0 populations, begin to think, ''this has given our race peace, and stability. What more can be done with this technology?''....and so it goes, a road that takes them further and further from their original nature, increasingly augmented, to replacement of organs, enhanced abilities....and comes the Edict to bring this 'gift' to all life out beyond their world, where those first ships find, more and more, other 'imperfect' life-forms in need of their 'help'....shudder.....well, that's my take.

My best friend is, ahem, nowdays devoid of follicles, as was his father...he seems to be cool with it. If only I could convert him to a full-fledged Trekker (ie), but, alas...

In the Voyager short-story compilation, ''Distant Shores'' there is an entry about his time on the planet earlier referenced. And there are some other good tales therein. Voyager fans might wnat to check it out.

You're right-so many choices...but plenty of 'time'. Ouch. That's probably one of those classic in-house jokes at the Temporal Integrity Office. Likely one such locale would not be, as referenced in Alan Dean Foster's story version of ''Yesteryear''(a fine ST:TAS tale) the Guardian's own past. I do wonder how many of us would be tempted to 'rework' our own pasts, by offering some advice to our past selves. But the likelihood is that, either we would end up making things worse! Or so it often happens in sf. ''A, leads to B, leads to C....'' ''Time travel. It gives me a headache...''

I note the many refernces to Judy and Gar Stevens' ''Federation''-to me, a fave book, i've peeked at time and again since I got my copy way back in '94 or '95....but the comment made about how we get so excited about fictional wars, when a very real one is going on in this day-a good point made. I loved STAR WARS, was a huge fan back in the day, and the DS9 'war saga' had its dramatic battles...but once in a while the same thought has passed through my mind as well. It won't be the last time someone creates war to entertain...and we will keep watching, of course. But it never hurts to be reminded....

I was astonished by them adding in WWIII and it scares me to think that they have to have another fight for humanity in order to have great peace. As we see later on with the tv series they have another war for a series DS9. Why does war excite us so much that we have to incorportate it in almost everything? When war beomes reality to us it makes us angry and upset, but for entertainment (such as Star Wars), we get all gitty and psyched. Just a bit confusing and mind boggling. :P

I may have worked how he came back differntly, but that's my take, etc. I am just glad that the Shat decided to 'return' Jimmy T. to the galaxy he helped open up, and 'preserve' Ouuuuch! Okay, could not resist that one. I have many of the subsequen novels, and I don't blame Mr. Shatner for doing what he did; I love to write, and I don't let little things such as the 'official' trek series as sown necessarily pidgeonhole me in what and who I continue myself; that's the wonderful thing about fan fiction-we can do as we please.I imagine Bill will keep a trekkin' with Kirk. The Reeves-Stevense are faves of mine-as writers as his collaborators, or by themselves.

I agree that the Doctor's family was a very interesting concept, but in the end it served it's purpose. I would like to point out another avenue of discovery for the Doctor that was not explored. In "Blink of an Eye" in season 6 the Doctor was sent down to the planet and lived for years their time. This episode was much after "Real Life," and I wonder how the Doctor's experience with his holographic family influenced his raising of an actual family almost 3 years later.

I have been debating this with a friend and wanted to open it up for speculation from others on the forum. We all know that the Romulans are an off shoot of the Vulcan race. So therefore should look similar in appearence.

 

So with that being said I am trying to determine what caused the romulan race to go from looking like this

I have proposed a theory but will hold it back to see what others believe.

I bought my first Tv set -one I didn't have to share time with-in those days.And I AM gettin' old...creak. I was thrilled to see a new Trek in town, and, though my favorites have altered since, to some degree, I never missed an ep..and there were many fine ones. Albeit late, congrats to all the gang from TNG established an indelible mark in the annals of Gene's universe.

I have wondered what it might have been like, if the producers had chosen to continue that development...I found it an interesting one. The ep in question gave him some new facets to explore-with a powerfully emotional ending. Of course, one might argue that to some degree it might have placed him in something of a less broadly-open parameter in terms of his evolution, but, I still liked it. In reality, back then, the folks in charge had their eye on future syndication, in which various stations would likely prefer to air eps in no particular order. I admit-when they first came out, I was always hoping my faves would come on first!(And even called my local staion to check) At any rate, the gang there might have liked to see how it could have gone.....another one of those'what ifs' from my favorite series.....

As somene said previous here, 'fascinating'. Me, I would say that, only in a verrry extreme sense could one go near the'cyborg' handle. As someone else said Mr. Clark had an organ-but only one.Even if a human took upon multilpe replacements, he would, even in the 24th century, likely be classified from a biological assesement as a human. I rather would look at it as what you are when you star out in this world-not necessarily what you become. Data was constructed as an andriod, even with all his marvelous development as a sentient, and increasingly 'rich' person in his own right, he technically was still an android.Cyborgs, in the broader sense to me, are beings who are SO altered-even if one started out fully human-as to be far less recognizable as human. The Bynars had some serious things done with their cerebral structures, but otherwise they were organic beings.

When I read the title of the topic I thought you were asking who's my favorite doctor in general. I was like why does he care what doctor I go to? :P I just woke up ok?! :lol:

 

I love them all but think my favorite would have to be the EMH and my least favorite would be Pulaski. She really rubbed me the wrong way in the beginning with how she treated Data and I never got over it.

I actuall wrote it in the middle of the night-when I should have been in bed myself! Heh, heh. In this day of HMOs and such...ARE ther any good Docs left? I kid!

I can imagine that last screech as ALIEN buys it.Yep...its otherwise super-corrosive bodily fluids would be wated on a race that can walk about in hard vacuum....poor ALIEN. I kinda pity it.. :P Bet Ripley would shed none for 'em!

Re any criticisms of the very existence of Sela, well, had it turned out that there is no 'logic' to her existing at all, I could withdraw my theory....but no need. The producers at TNG were sage enough to know that if Tasha's presence in our future timeline held no water, after her couraegeous act in Y.T., they'd never have allowed it! Granted, this ep has been analyzed, both in st mags, and amongst the fans, ever since it aired. I have certainly pondered it, and this plot ranks likely among the most studied...but it all comes out right in the wash. In my,ahem, opinion. I am intrigued by this stimulating debate after my post. Wow! Hmm...maybe I should post another Sela-related idea i've had....or should I? Grin.
