  1. Bajorans tend to look like all other Bajorans to me. The difference being reddish-orange jumpsuits or brownish-gray. 99.9-percent of Vulcans do look like they were manufactured in a factory, a few inches of extra hair aside. I just don't see the diversity in attire in Star Trek, that I see in Star Wars or other Sci-Fi series.

I've heard the argument that we mostly see military personnel, so they're always in uniform. But even off duty, everyone stays in uniform. I don't buy Okuda's theory that the uniforms are so comfortable, that nobody wants to bother changing when their shift ends.

Yes, I see a lot of Jeans and T-shirts. And they are far more colorful and varied in design and style than anything I've seen on the DS9 promenade. I realize part of the problem is costuming budget. But still, I'm sure Paramount has entire warehouses of odds and ends they can throw together to make unusual looking fashions for our 24th century friends to relax in.

I suppose if I had to pick, I'd think the worst of the worst were the original Cardassian military uniforms with their bulky, pointy chest guards (or whatever in the cosmos those things were).

  2. Just give me something really fast with respectable defensive capabilities. A Centaur type, or a Defiant or an Intrepid sounds good.

I hate fanboy ships with 20 torpedo launchers, type XXXX phaser arrays plastered all over the hull and super ablative regenerating armor (or whatever it is this week).

  3. I hate all of the clothing choices on Star Trek. Everyone looks the same. All humans dress alike, all Vulcans go to the same barber, all Klingons wore pointy shoes, etc. Where's the diversity? Where's the couture.....

Oh wait, according to Star Trek gay men don't exist in the future. There goes the fashion industry.

  4. I think the fans would have had no problems whatsoever with an openly gay character. It was the gutless powers that be that refused to include such a character in Star Trek (and still refuse to include any in movies). A lot of fans have included such characters in fan made films and fan written stories. If the studio refuses to live up to the ideas of Trek, then we'll march on without their official sanction. Long live IDIC. <_<

  5. Well, Sax was a Dodger just before he snubbed me, too. I'm sure if it were the other way around I'd be a Dodger hater right now. But fate and all that. So, yeah, I'm very forgiving of former pin-strippers and (the worst of the worst, ex Giants) when they put on the Dodger blue.

Still, I guess it might have been funny seeing Billy Martin screaming at Worf to hustle (or better yet, benching him for not hustling enough).

  6. Braves? <_<

I am not a Braves fan. I live in Louisiana right now, but I grew up in Florida. When I was a kid my dad used to take me and my brother to spring training games. The first one I remember was played between the Yankees and the Dodgers. I had my little Yankees batting helmet on and wore a pin stripped t-shirt. All I wanted was Yankee's 2nd baseman Steve Sax to autograph something for me. But he blew me off, walked right past me as if I weren't standing there (and there wasn't a crowd, he just ignored me). I was crushed. Instantly turned me into a Yankees hater.

That day I became a Dodger fan. And now that Tampa has a team, I also cheer for the Devil Rays.

  7. As of this writing, the Miami Dolphins have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Aw, man, stop picking on my team. <_<

The Fins will get better. They have to, because there's nowhere else to go but up. I actually read a rumor a night ago that Miami might trade for Donovan McNabb, and I almost got excited (I know McNabb is getting older and slower, but he still has a few great games in that arm and those legs. I'd love to have him in Fin Town.), before realizing the rumor was probably baloney.

  8. I always liked Spock the best. Kirk was an egomaniac. Dr. McCoy's attitudes toward Spock always struck me as racist (Green blooded so and so, pointy-eared devil, etc). Scotty was great, but we never saw much of him. Or Sulu. I love Sulu, but he's just window dressing in TOS for the most part.

  9. I'm an independent voter. I was going to vote for John Edwards, but . . . . <_<

I'm not thrilled by any of the remaining candidates. But I suppose if push comes to shove I'll throw in with John McCain. Edwards was the most moderate of the Dems. McCain is the most moderate of the GOP. I also like that he has proven the GOP elite cannot bully him. I would like to see him a little less wishy washy. He tends to cave to popular opinion at times. But he's still to be preferred, IMO, to Obama or (God help us all) Hillary.

Obama is generating a lot of buzz. But he has no experience. And I've seen evidence that he takes his obligations in Congress with something less than the enthusiasm I would like to see in an elected representative of the people (missing almost 40% of votes taken). Also, virtually all of my relatives have voted for him simply because he's black. That's not good enough for me. And it shouldn't be for them. Show me some substance Barack, and maybe I'll consider you in 2012.
