  1. Average. When Brent Spiner gives the so-called "wink" at the end to Data fans, I twitched; it was too blatant. Also, the Augments were not impressive. The actors could've been chosen better.

  2. Don't forget, the head of the Tal Shiar works for Section 31.

Really? Where do you get that from?

I believe he's referring to the DS9: "Inter Arma Silent Leges" episode. But I thought Koval worked at the highest level of the government, not the Tal Shiar.

  3. I've been watching "Enterprise" and I'm wondering who would win an all out battle in a 22nd Century Vulcan-Klingon war. The Vulcans seem to have a healthy level of apprehension towards the Klingons, but so does everybody else. The two species are basically of similar strength and physical resilience, with their own efficient forms of martial arts...so hand-to-hand would not be the decision maker. Klingons don't have the cloaking device at this point, and their birds-of-prey are comparable to Vulcan combat cruisers (or at least, they seem to be).

*sigh* I just can't choose.

  4. When I posted this on another site, someone made the excellent argument that Section 31 had the advantage of not really being known, and covering up the proof of their existence quite well. In short, their method of secrecy was simply far more efficient.

  5. I'm gonna go right ahead and say Section 31 would step all over the Tal Shiar. After watching that DS9 "Inter Arma" ep a couple of thousand times, I couldn't help but be impressed with Section 31's handiwork. Not to mention how they were willing infect Odo and simply exterminate his race (of which I didn't approve, but hey...like I said, you gotta stand up and salute that kind of dedication).

Another thing; Starfleet tends to be buddy-buddy with Section 31 whereas the Romulan military and the Tal Shiar hate each other's guts.

  6. See, I'd say Klingons also; they're actualy warriors instead of hunters. I started this same thread on another site, and they're split down the middle. Most of the arguments posted favor the Hirogen because of the common perception that Hirogen are taller, physically stronger, and have better guns. I thought the two species were roughly the same size and strength.

  7. Remember, kids: two 24th century foes at the height of their empires. So for the Cardassians, that probably means pre-Dominion Occupation, and pre-destruction of the Obsidian Order.

I'm torn (though I kinda wanna say Romulans; I mean, we didn't see the Tal Shiar get completely destroyed). I mean, the backstabbers versus the other backstabbers...who'd win?

  8. I can't help but notice that Vulcans are logical...to an extent. And Vulcans don't lie...to an extent. And Vulcans are trustworthy pacifists...to an extent (remember all the surveillance equipment under the monastery at P'Jem?). Why? Because they are a proud and often cynical race. They would never sit back and let themselves be butchered by the Romulans. If fleets of Romulan warbirds suddenly headed their way, that would be the day Surak's teachings would suddenly go on vacation.

Romulans are also a bit more cowardly and more treacherous, as has been pointed out. We've found in Trek movie/episode after Trek movie/episode that these two traits tend to be the downfall of the bad guys. Which Romulan commander do you know will willingly die for his/her crew? If the war takes even the slightest bad turn and blame has to be assigned, how long before the Tal Shiar and the military start stabbing each other in the back?

  9. Remember 24th-century Klingons vs. the Hirogen in the HIGHLY unlikely event that the two went to all-out war--no external help for either. Just use your imaginations, y'all.

And I'm thinking mostly hand-to-hand on this one, not that I don't mind the sight of birds-of-prey suddenly decloaking and blowing someone up.
