Considering you were comparing Cindy Sheehan and Edith Keeler but request there be no discussion of the war in Iraq, it was pretty difficult to respond to your post. Perhaps you should consider a new thread in Qo'noS which allows for the discussion of the subject of their respective anti-war movements in full.

OK I see your point. I will think about this more and try to word imy posts in a better way.

    Mod note: fixed code.

  2. I can think of 2 songs by PETA suporter Paul McCartney :

"Wildlife" (from the Wings CD "Wildlife")

While take a walk thru an African park one day,

I saw a sign say, "The animals have the right of way".

    Wild life, whatever happened to,

Wild life, the animals in the zoo?

    We're breathing a lot,

a lot of political nonsense in the air.

You're making it hard for the people who live in there.

You're moving so fast, but, baby, you know not where.

Wild life, (wild life), what's gonna happen to

Wild life, (wild life), the animals in the zoo?

    You'd better stop, there's animals ev'rywhere,

And man is the top, an animal too,

And, man, you just got to care.

Wild life, what's gonna happen to,

Wild life, the animals in the zoo?

You're breathing a lot of polical nonsense in the air.

Wild life, (wild life), what's gonna happen to

(what's gonna happen to) (what's gonna happen to)

Wild life, (wild life), the animals in the zoo?

(what's gonna happen to) (what's gonna happen to)

Wild life, what ever happened to?

    What ever happened to?

"Looking For Changes" (from the McCartney CD "Off The Ground"

I Saw A Cat With A Machine In His Brain

The Man Who Fed Him Said

    He Didn't Feel Any Pain

I'd Like To See That Man Take Out That Machine

And Stick It In His Own Brain

    You Know What I Mean

I Saw A Rabbit With Its Eyes Full Of Tears

The Lab That Owned Her Had

    Been Doing It For Years

Why Don't We Make Them Pay For Every Last Eye

That Couldn't Cry Its Own Tears

Do You Kmow What I Mean

When I Tell You That We'll All Be

    Looking For Changes

Changes In The Way We Treat Our Fellow Creatures

And We Will Learn How To Grow

Well I Tell You That We'll All Be

    Looking For Changes

Changes In The Way We Treat Our Fellow Creatures

And We Will Learn How To Grow

    When We're Looking For Changes

I Saw A Monkey That Was Learning To Choke

A Guy Beside Him Gave Him Cigarettes To Smoke

And Everytime That Monkey Started To Cough

The Bastard Laughed His Head Off

Do You Know What I Mean

When I Tell You That We'll All Be

    Looking For Changes

Changes In The Way We Treat Our Fellow Creatures

And We Will Learn How To Grow

    When We're Looking For Changes

    We're Looking For Changes

    We're Looking For Changes

  3. I love them both, Altho I discovered Star Trek several years before Python. I saw the title in the TV Guide and thought it was going to be an actual circus. It took a while to really understand what was actually going on but when I did you couldn'tkeep me away from it. One of the benefits I gained from Python was educational. They were constantly making so many refrences to History, Philosophy, Art that i had to do alot of research just so i could understand most of the jokes. :)

It would have been great if one (or all) of the pythons had appeared on one of the Trek series. Cleese would have made a great alien (I believe he may have been on a Dr. Who episode).

  4. I too was also a pre-TNG trekkie (since the early 70's) and was originaly excited about ENTERPRISE before it aired. I thought it was a great opportunity to bridge the gap toward TOS by meeting the same TOS aliens etc. Altho I have always liked the show most of the series let me down as far as that was concerned. However this season has been fantastic. I can't wait for the Klingon Episode tonight and I'm really excited about the "Mirror" story arc (especially Hoshi as the Capt's woman) and now it's going to end :waaaa: Better to have had enterprise for 4 seasons and loose it than never to have had it at all. :P

  5. So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

  6. Where do I start? I,m not as good a friend to my friends as I should be. I agree to things and back out most of the time because I'm lazy or want to keep drinking. I'm paranoid and a self concious loner but am not above being confontational when I feel I've been wronged. I'm also a passive agressive, anal retentive Karaoke singer who's parents used to play Broadway cast albums to drown out their love making. :bag:

  7. This season is not about going where no man has gone before. I can't stand it! I mean starfleet was based on the principle of exploration not battle. But why the change??????? Why differ from the common thread of Trek?

In this point in history Star fleet does not exsist yet.

You're confusing the Federation with Starfleet. No date for Starfleet's creation has ever been given.

    Oopps! My mistake. :assimilated:

  8. i don't watch TOS

I know you said you didn't watch TOS but the reason you gave had nothing to do with the main question i originally asked (which everyone seemed to ignore), so it was a wasted effort on my part it seems. Better luck next time I guess.

  9. I know some people choose not to watch TOS because it's "old" and the effects are "bad" (so you say). Is It Only Because It's TOS or does this type of thinking spill over into other areas. "Would you not watch classic movies like "Frankenstein", "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or "The Wizard Of OZ" " for the same reasons? How about "Old" music (60's 70's or older)? How old is "OLD" anyway? Do you draw a line? And why?

  10. Nothing beats getting a group of Trekkies together and pulling out "A Piece of the Action"...

 That was the first episode of Trek that I ever owned on video!

If You "Loved" the episode " A Piece of the Action" than i can't understadnd why you would ask anyone why you should watch TOS in the first place.

The question in this topic is not a personal one as I have been watching TOS as far back as I can remember. The issue that this topic is looking at regards more modern fans and the original Star Trek's place for todays audience.

Personally I consider TOS to be my favorite and the best.

Ok I see now. When I first read the post I thought you were refering to yourself as a new breed of fan. Sorry about that.

  12. I know this probably doesn't need to be said but Spock didn't have feelings just because he was 1/2 human., He had feelings because he was a living sentiant being. All vulcan's have feelings (especially Sarek) they just deeply supress and deny them. Sarek had feelings by the ton and Mark Leonard was fantastic in how he let us in on them. He was a loving husband, a passionate ambassador, harsh in his judgements sometimes and a loving proud father. His final recocilliation with Spock was wonderful. However, I feel his best performances were his mind meld with Picard and his final break down and loss of control. Sarek was a great character played by a fine actor. A best friend of James Dean BTW.
