  1. I agree with the consensus here (although I'm apparently the only person to have voted as such so far). I don't think Khan should be in the next film.

HOWEVER, they pulled off this last film so well while doing so many things that probably went against what I though they should do with the movie that I'm very confident leaving the story in the hands of Orci, Kurtzman, and Abrams and just letting the story take me along for the ride. :roflmao:

  2. Looks like they're estimating that Star Trek overtook Angels and Demons to again be in the top slot for Saturday. Sunday's estimates (which are projections as most of the domestic Sunday box office hasn't even happened yet) dip slightly and would bring the domestic total to nearly $150 million in 10 days. If that's true it'll be just short of completely overtaking the domestic box office numbers of Wolverine (estimated to be about $151 million after 17 days of release).

The numbers for Star Trek are actually doing better, as far as initial gross and second weekend drop-off, than last summer's Iron Man. Given this and the fact that Star Trek has a very strong pre-existing fan base that will likely revisit the movie many times while it remains in theaters, it looks like Star Trek will have very strong legs at the theaters and stick around for quite a while.

  3. This will give away my age but who cares it's just a number. I first saw TOS on TV when it first came out. Watched Star Trek all along on TV. As, I never had cable or Satellite to view anything else. I was a wee Teen the first time I saw TOS. :roflmao:

Are you talking about TOS or TAS?

  4. Wow, you people and your semantics. :roflmao: I think every US citizen, Canadian, Mexican, Peruvian, Brazilian, Ecuadorian, Uruguayan, Costa Rican, and every other resident of the North and South American continents are ALL AMERICAN! :jaw:

Anyhoos, Friday's box office totals were less than I'd hoped, BUT Star Trek remained in second place for Friday with a domestic total of about $11.85 million. I had hoped for a higher number, but since Angels and Demons only opened to the tune of $16.55 million itself, I'm reasonably satisfied with the Friday performance of Star Trek.

  5. Click for Spoiler:
I haven't read the comics yet, but I believe Nero was captured and held on Rura Penthe for a few decades until he escaped and destroyed those 47 Klingon cruisers mentioned in the movie itself. Also, remember that over those 25 years he did not have the red matter, which he obtained very very shortly before going straight to Vulcan to destroy it so that Spock could share the same pain he'd felt.

At this point, as Spock mentions, we've still got 129 years until the Romulan sun goes supernova, so Nero has a hell of a lot of time to get over there and assist his race. Also, remember that it wasn't just his planet and people he was avenging...it was his wife. Regardless of the fact that his planet was once again intact, he would never again be able to see his wife or child (his wife was more than likely decades and decades away from being born, and his child would NEVER be born in this timeline.)

  6. It's just south of $100 million domestic not including Thursday, which will put it at about $105 million to start its second week. Any guesses about its Friday performance? I know it's going to have much better legs than Wolverine did, but it's also going up against the Angels and Demons Friday release. I'm expecting it to still do really well...so I'm going to say that tomorrow (Friday the 14th) it'll bring in about $18 million.

  7. Hahahahaha, wow am I that out of it today?! I was referring to the new Terminator trilogy! I only called it a re-imagination of the franchise because of all of hte new techniques, takes, actors, and styles they're using, although it does fit completely within established Terminator canon. Sorry for not being clear about that earlier...I'm running on 1 hour of sleep, a bottle of muscle milk, two 5 Hour Energy drinks, a bottle of Kool Aid, and some unhealthy snacks for the day (I have three final exams today!) I wrote my previous post in a very short break from writing a paper and painting a 3x4 FOOT painting, both of which were due today.

Takara: Thanks for the link! :superhappy: Box Office Mojo has actually been my primary source all along (I posted it in the top of this thread actually), but when I was checking it they hadn't yet updated the total domestic gross to include Monday. :spock:

  8. Probably. Thank you.

So it made about 4 million on Monday. At that rate, its take will be around 90 million by Friday morning, when it faces Hanks in A&D.

Hmm. Hopefully, of course, Star Trek will clean A&D's clocks but I don't think I can say I think it will stay at number one against A&D... however, the recession could have people wanting to see something fun over something with dark themes...

I'll call the match-up this way, it'll be close. The margin between the two films weekend take will be nearly tied.

Actually, according to what I've seen, Star Trek pulled in nearly twice that much on Monday ($7.64 mil), putting it at nearly 90 million already ($86.8 mil)

As for Star Trek vs. Angels and Demons, tough call. It will be a close 1-2 finish, with either ahead. I think Star Trek is destined for third the next weekend behind Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum 2 but will hold better than Angels and Demons.

That's assuming Terminator doesn't flop like a lot of people are expecting. Personally I'm glad they've started a new trilogy and reimagined it, but I'm doubtful as to how successful it will be, actually. Where are you guys seeing these numbers? Are my cookies getting inmyway or something? I don't see the Monday estimates anywhere yet.

  9. The first time I saw it I was in the second row of the IMAX and my girlfriend and I were in a very serious argument immediately afterward, so my view on it the first time around was tainted. I kept feeling the strong urge to see it again, and when I did (going by myself instead of with a friend this time) I sat in the third or fourth row of a large traditional theater. That second times was SO MUCH better than the first, and I'm glad I gave the film a 5/5 when I rated it here a few days ago. I can't tell you how much I like the new direction it's taken! :P

So far I've seen it at 7 on the 7th and at 9 on the 9th. I plan to see it again very very soon!
