  1. It's unlikely they will go with an Enterprise film any time soon. My guess is that they would do a mixed cast/new crew in an effort to launch a new movie franchise. I don't think a well-written film and solid cast would need a 5-year series to gain audience acceptance. My guess is that Paramount would want a younger cast, and there has long been talk of a Starfleet Academy project. I think a film using veterans from the series in some cameo roles as lecturers or Federation leaders in a story about the launch of a new ship with a young new crew could work. It would be fun to to see Picard as an Admiral, or better yet, federation president. But the focus should be on the introduction of a new crew, and hopefully one that is more international (and intergalactic) than the practically all-American Enterprise.

  2. I'll admit that the character of T'Pol is improving. I think maybe all the actors are settling into their roles more. Just saw Cease Fire and thought T'Pol was good in that. At least her hair piece improved in the second season -- doesn't look so much like a cheap toupee. I say we all have a drink to the curren crew of the Enterprise. Here, here!

  3. For some reason the poll thinks I already voted and wouldn't let me vote. Anyway, I'd have to say T'Pol. I realize she's a favorite to many, and maybe her acting is improving a bit, but to me she's simply not what a Vulcan should be. She looks so ridiculous in that outfit, and her various implants just distract. I can't take her seriously and it angers me that the producers are using such a cheap gag to attract teenage male viewers. It just confirms the worst stereotypes of Hollywood producers and degrades the show. Maybe if they dressed her down and gave her a less-revealing jumpsuit it would be better.

  4. I'm sure a lot of folks freaked out back in the 1960s when William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols made television history with the first interracial smooch on national TV. Now that was showing courage, and Gene Roddenberry as well as Shatner and Nichols should be applauded.

Unfortunately, today's powers that be are too cowardly to go out on a similar limb and even show two crew men in the background holding hands, whether it's Malcolm or not.

I reckon that in the future the divisions between homosexuals and heterosexuals will begin to disappear as the macho attitudes that are still prevelant give way to greater understanding and acceptance, in which case I would expect more people will be enjoying sex with both men and women -- something I think was implied in TNG on some of those funky leisure planets they visited where men and women wandered around in skimpy sexy outfits. If this were the case, there would be nothing wrong with Malcolm having both boyfriends and girlfriends. Today's division is a result of current social mores. We all know that in ancient Greece, many men had both wives and male lovers, a custom that was acceptable in a non-Christian society. I don't think Enterprise should focus on this topic as a major plotline, but I agree it could simply show that homosexuality or bisexuality is an acceptable social norm in the future.

Of course one can assume some unnamed crewmember might be gay without ever seeing any evidence, but that is a cop-out, especially when there are heterosexual romantic storylines, like the ones mentioned.

It's about time Star Trek regained some social courage.
