  1. Haven't you ever heard? "The needs of the captian out way the needs of the many or the few."

    LOL Tank!

I did not care for the seat belt thing, but I did like what Picard said at the end about going where no one has gone before. They should have somehow worked that into the ending they chose. IMHO

  2. I am not fond of kids in general in Star Trek but in Wesley's case I will make an exception. He was just old enough to not be considered a kid. I liked his character, especially after the first couple of seasons.

  3. Although I did not see all of the deaths that were listed, of the ones I did see, my vote has to go to Spock. It was well acted and well written. Kirk's speech at Spock's funeral was perfect. He was so choked up by the end of it he almost couldn't say the last words. IMHO, I think it is one of the best deaths in any movie, not just Star Trek.

  4. There is a movie that deals with something very similar to this called Frailty. It is very interesting.

I'm not sure why any god would ask you to kill to show your love for it. If I had a vision that said it was god and wanted me to kill for it, I would have to assume that I have gone insane.

This is a weird question TransporterMalfunction. Have you had any visions that we should know about? :andorian:

  5. Star Trek has affected me greatly. I had a very abusive childhood. Star Trek was my escape from reality. It may sound corny to you guys but I don’t know how I would have made it through without it. My fiancé likes to tease me a lot about ST. He does not understand how I can get so carried away over a television show. I do not expect him or anyone else to understand what ST means to me. I owe Gene Rodenberry (and his imagination) a huge thanks for helping me get through some very difficult times.

"There are two ideas to this documentary right now," Rod says. "One is, to see that Star Trek has affected lives for the better, has influenced people in amazing ways, whether it's about people overcoming enormous disabilities, or being influenced not to commit suicide, or some of the other dramatic stories that are out there. The other idea is to get away from the stereotype of a Star Trek fan being the 35-year-old living in his mother's basement. Because in reality, in almost every walk of life there's a Star Trek fan.

Star Treks impact is amazing to me. When I was young, I thought I was the only one who had a fascination with ST. It was nice to find out that I was not alone. It’s amazing that so many different people feel so passionately about Star Trek. The only thing that I do not understand is why we have to prove to anyone that we are not a “35-year-old living in his mother's basement” or a “costume-clad troop of sci-fi addicts”. I would prefer see how ST has impacted people’s lives rather than once again trying to convince people we are not the stereotype they believe us to be. The only people that are going to be watching this documentary are Star Trek fans anyway. They don’t have to prove anything to us.

  6. Human

    He - Hers

    Man - Woman

    Male - Female

See?  Man is usually the base word for the woman gender.  So, when not knowing the person's gender, it is common to use the male gender as a referrence.

However, what gets highly annoying is when you say "he", and then some female comes up and is all like "she" is a woman, not a man, and gives ya the eye roll and all that.  Really, why does it matter?

Spoken like a real man CJLP.

At first it bothered me when Star Trek would call a female captain sir. I just thought the captain should be addressed proper. Sir or Mam or Mr. or Ms. or what have you. Ever notice how Picard will say Mr. LaForge or Mr. Data. He never says Ms. Troi or Ms. Crusher.

I think whatever you choose you should try to be consistent. That way one gender does not feel put down or less important.

  7. Alterego, I knew you were up to something. I have dial up and it took a few minutes for that picture to show and the whole time I kept saying to myself "this better be worth it Alterego" and it was. Well done! Bravo! I have always respected you but now I've found an even greater respect...just don't turn your back on the soong sisters. :)

  8. I just finished watching all of the commentary and I have one question. How can you have commentary and not have one of the main characters comment on anything! What happened to Tom Hardy?! I saw him for a brief moment saying one line. I realize that I have a passion for Shinzon that no one else could (or would even want to) possibly understand, but did that bother anyone else? :)

  9. I'd like to see a series without so much conflict. I hate to think that hundreds of years from now we are still going to be fighting over beliefs and territory. I'm not saying that won't be the case in reality but since this is science fiction it can be anything.

I would like to see more of the mystery of outer space. I would also like to see less use of phasers and photon torpedoes and maybe use the power of our minds like in the Matrix. Star Trek is supposed to be about seeking out new life and new civilizations; not about wars and who's got the most starships with the most power or who has crossed over into the neutral zone again.

  10. I think the next movie should be a mixed cast. It's not a Star Trek movie unless we know and love the characters. If they introduce all new characters something would be missing.

What they need to do is get away from all of the fighting. Star Trek needs to move beyond the typical who's in whose area of space and who's trying to conquer whom. It needs to be more like the first movie or the Voyage Home. I would like to see a movie about them exploring and discovering; not fighting and killing. I can turn on the news if I want to see that.

  11. Although I don't know all of the characters, I voted for Crusher. I think her fiery hair is very attractive and I think she is kind of mysterious in a way. To all of you who voted for Seven, yes she is shall we say easy on the eyes, but I've always found that a person is sexiest in combination with looks and personality. Seven is kind of lacking in the personality area IMHO.

  12. I love Trek & I'm proud of the fact

When I buy Trek stuff I hold my head high

I don't look like a Treker but I sound like one.

Abakai2003, I am not ashamed of being a ST fan. I just don't want to deal with other people's ignorance.

I forgot to mention in my last post that there is a very typical stereotype of a trekkie in the movie Daddy Daycare. At first it made me angry but then I actually enjoyed it because there were so many Trek references and it wasn't in a bad way just references. If you guys see it, stay for the credits, there's another reference in the out-takes that's pretty funny.

  13. I have been basically told by my fiance to give up these boards. As you can see I have not. I have however cut down on my time here considerably. I pretty much only post on the weekends now. He did not give me an ultimatum to choose the boards or him. He said he just doesn't want me to be on here instead of spending time with him. I work and I go to school so when I'm home I understand he wants to spend time with me. I try to balance the two but I think for him it's more of a matter of insecurity. I once got him to admit what the real problem is. We were talking about a fight we had over these boards and he said he is afraid that I will leave him for one of you guys. I told him it's not that kind of a board and to take a look at it but he won't.

If he ever did give me an ultimatum to choose ST boards or him then I would choose him. If he wanted me to give up Trek all together then that would be a different story. Trek has been a part of my life far longer than he has and nothing is going to change that.

  14. We work on a computer all day, and the desktop pic on my work computer is a picture of the starship Voyager, which I downloaded from startrek.com.  One day, one of my co-workers noticed my desktop and he got a look on his face like he had just sucked on a lemon.  "Who did THAT?!?" he asked, while pointing at my monitor.  I just smiled and replied, "I did."  His only reply was "Oh" while backing away like I was going to whip out a knife and stab him or something. Jerk

I know exactly what you mean. I work on a computer all day at work as well. I thought about having a ST desktop but I have decided against it because I just don't want to deal with all of the comments that I know I will get.

I feel like I have to be a closet trekkie. (I'm not even sure what defines a trekkie, but I guess for one thing, if you're on this board you qualify). Most everyone I know that knows I like ST feels the need to comment every now and then. It bothers the hell out of me. I think the stereotype that surrounds us trekkies, is based on human prejudice to not like something they do not understand.

To tell you guys the truth, I am sooo looking forward to May 20th to get Nemesis but I know I will want to buy it and get out of the store as fast as I can. I just don't want people looking at me and snickering. I'm sure it's all in my head but whenever I buy anything ST I feel like I'm being judged or labeled.

  15. I refused to watch anything but TNG until about two weeks ago. I started watching Voyager. At first I did not like it but now I think I'm hooked. I have never seen a DS9 episode and I have tried to watch Enterprise but I just can't get into it. I'll have to take it one series at a time.

  16. The Star Trek future is not necessarily ideal to me; I also think it is based on some faulty assumptions - ie (no money + no religion = peace).  I wouldn't want to live in a world where I was forbidden to believe in God.

While we talk about world conflict; the truth is the US is one of the most violent countries in the world.  I think we are fettered from solving many of our problems because we are fragmented into too many special interest groups  - and each group opposes anything (even the truth) that doesn't meet its political agenda.

Athough I do not understand how we will ever live without using money, the Star Trek future looks pretty good to me. The only thing I do not care for is all of the fighting with other species.

I'm not sure I agree with your perception of what Star Trek is based on. This is a quote from the Great Bird himself from The Trekker's Guide to The Next Generation by Hal Schuster. "I had seen science fiction movies before, but I'd always thought to myself, 'Not enough characterization, not enough motivation.' "Perhaps I could use this as an excuse to go to those far-off planets...and be able to talk about love, war, nature, God, sex and all those things that make up the excitement of the human condition." I do not see any faulty perceptions here. He just wanted to tell a story using "far-off planets" to "talk about the human condition". This of course is just my humble opinion, I am in no way saying you a wrong, just that I do not agree.

I wasn't aware that the US is one of the most violent countries in the world. Are you sure about that? They might report it more than other countries but who knows what's really happening in third world countries. I do however; agree with the rest of your statement.

  17. However, we don't really know for sure whether Shinzon was the only clone of Picard the Romulans made.  What if something had happened to Shinzon when he was younger, they might have cloned a back-up.  Hmmmm.

I thought about that to. We can only hope. How do you know Tom would love to play Shinzon again? Was there an interview that I missed?
