The March to the Arch

Have any of you "hoopsters" finished filling out your brackets for " the big dance"? I haven't yet. I usually don't do too well, but, what the hay, its for fun. I don't gamble - I'd lose my shirt for sure! LOL! Do you have a fav team? Please note: this thread is meant for both the mens and womens tournaments. It just so happens that the Minnesota Gophers are in both tourneys! w00t! w00t! :P I don't know that the men will go too far as NC is in their bracket. ;) But I have high hopes for the women. Maybe a final four....? It could happen. :borg2:

Thanks, again, MP! Sadly - :P - I cannot read a spoiler w/ an " attatchmentid". I'd have to paste it outside of the spoiler, otherwise. I have copies of the brackets from my local paper, BTW. Thanks for your interest! ;)

NCAA hoops! Yes! HAve to look at the women's pairings. I assume Tennessee is in again for the women. Minnesata in men's palys an Iowa tem right, can't remember which one. Of course The fighting Ilini are favored by you never know (I am a native of Illinois and now live in Chicago). But I'm glad Iowa (and Minnesata) made the men's tourney, cause I tend to root for all Midwest teams but esp. for Big Ten Teams. I went to Univ of Iowa for My Library Science degree. Go Hawkeyes! Go Big Ten!

March Madness...

My favorite time of year... :P

Yes, I've filled out my brackets, made my family fill out brackests, and got a few friends to do it as well. I do mine through ESPN's online tournament challenge.

I don't think KY will win, but I hope they at least make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Can't decide who I think will win. I've pretty much narrowed it down to Illinois, Wake, UNC, OK St., or maybe Syracuse...

Hmmm... ;)

I remember being in high school and everyone having brackets out and comparing their ranks... :P I'm not a basketball fan at all, I've only been to one game, a PSU game. My favourite time of the year was late April to mid May... NHL playoffs

I didn't follow this NCAA season at all, it was something that my father and I were looking forward to but after he passed away I just didn't have any interest in watching. I didn't even see 2 minutes of a single game all season long.

Well, I finally did the men's brackets ~~ I misplaced my copy of the women's; will need to check elsewhere ~~ decided to make two separate ones. In the first, I have the Final Four teams as: Illinois, Georgia Tech, UConn, and Syracuse, with the championship going to UConn. Only one of these is a #1 seed.

In the second bracket, I selected these four finalists : Arizona, Washington, North Carolina, and Michigan State, with the final winner being Washington . I have two #1 seeds here. Its always a question as to who is going to be upset, who is going to be hot, etc. So what are your predictions? Does anyone agree with my selections?

BTW, Ace, I have KY upset by Iowa, or losing to Oklahoma in the third round. Sorry, but no hard feelings? :P

I have Kentucky losing to Oklahoma in the third round, so no, no hard feelings. :wink2:

Did I mention I have Minnesota getting knocked off in the first round of all but one of my 5 allowable brackets?

Hmm, I don't see Georgia Tech or UConn making return appearances in the Final Four after last yr, but it's possible. Wait, I think I do have UConn getting there in one bracket.

My Final Four... and then some:

Austin region: 4Syracuse or 1Duke (darkhorse = none)

Albequerque region: 1Washington or 2Wake (darkhorse = 5GA Tech, 6Tex Tech, 4UL)

Chicago region: 1Illinois or 2OK St. (darkhorse = 3AZ, 6LSU)

Syracuse region: 1UNC or 2Uconn... or 4Florida (darkhorse = 6Wisconsin, 3KS)

I think Old Dominion could possibly take out MSU in the opener. You know how dangerous those 5/12's can be.

:yahoo: I don't have Minnesota going beyond the 2nd round. I doubt that they will upset UNC, but, hey, I'm from MN so I need to be optimistic.

You are right about the 5/12s. I see that 12UW-Milwaukee won against 5Alabama!

With the first day of the tourney completed, only two games really surprised me. I really thought UTEP would upset Utah, and I didn't think there was a chance in heck of LSU being upset by UAB (which beat UK in the 2nd round last yr). Part of me saw that Bama loss coming.

Pacific over Pitt tripped me up a little, but not much.

Looking forward to tomorrow. For your sake, I'll root for those Gophers. :wink2:

Is anyone else here watching this tournament? Trust me; it's a lot of fun. :P

Thanks, dude! :P The Gophers will need to bring their "A" game, for sure, against Iowa State. I watched the Texas vs Nevada -#8 & #9 respectively- and it was exciting!

The Gophers bit the dust. :P Oh, well, maybe next year. Now to see how well the womens team will do. :yahoo: I have two brackets for the men, and one for the women. So far, I have six wrong on my on-line bracket, the other one, clipped out of the newspaper, I have only four wrong. I thought the UConn-UCF game would be a barnburner, and UConn started off hot. But, they nearly gave it away in the second half. Fortunately, they won. I am curious to see how many Big 10 teams survive the first round. Also, I'm particularly interested in the Georgia Tech - George Wash. game. Another 5/12 seed match-up. :P Go Yellowjackets!

Woo hoo! :P The March to the Arch continues tonight. The "sweet sixteen" remaining teams will begin to dwindle. Illinois plays UW -Milwaukee. Naturally, the Illini are heavy favorites, but I hope it isn't a blowout. The other match-ups: Louisville vs Washington; West Virginia vs Texas Tech; and Arizona vs Oklahoma State. ** please note that the underlined teams are my picks to win. I did, however, pick AZ over OSU in another bracket.

We're on the way to the elite eight. Illini just won, and Louisville "upset" Washington. I'm not totally surprised, as I've heard several "experts" say Louisville should never have been as low as number 4 and that Washington should have been a 2 not a #1. Looking forward to the W. Virginia game as they have played well and also the AZ vs OSU game. I'm a big fan of Coach Lute from when he ws coach at Iowa. OSU has looked really tough though, so it should be a great game.

:P It appears very evident that my skills at prognostication - predicting who will win - are lacking, indeed. :P Only one of my three picks won; two, if I include my other bracket. So, I guess this is what makes the games so exciting. Fortunately for me, I don't gamble on the games. Plinking coins into nickle machines at a casino, on occasion, is the extent of my gambling. Not even for poker.

As to tonight's games, I see, "through a glass darkly..." (or something like that :) ) that there are two possible upsets. First, Michigan State over Duke. The second, and my apologies to Ace, Utah over Kentucky. Utah's Andrew Bogut is awesome to watch! :wow: The other games are: Wisconsin vs North Carolina State; and Villanova vs North Carolina. Now to find something to do until the games start this evening. :P

Well, the first set of Friday games are on right now, but even beforehand I had no doubt that NC St. could take Wisconsin. It's starting to look like it's going to turn out that way.

I'm surprised at how well Mich St. is doing against Duke. Good for them.

Bite your tongue, Jaz :P . We could definitely lose tonight, but I'm still hopeful.

UNC will probably take Nova, no problem :P .

I like all 4 of the teams already in the Elite Eight (and I picked most of them to make it there :P ). This is looking to be an interesting Final Four. :wow:

Erm... Go Cats!

Three Big Ten teams in the Elite eight! Even though I did not pick them all! :P UNC looks like it still may make it past Villanova and Kentucky is currently leading too. My brackets are mostly busted but its been an interesting tournament so far. Still pulling for Illinois tho Arizona looked tough last night.

:: jaz chokes down humble pie:: Umm... I see the 'Cats won. Good for you, Ace!

The Tar Heels nearly lost. Otherwise, I did ok today - 3 of 4. The Illini are the only team left on my bracket. Oh well, c'est la vie! :)

Yep, my brackets are all a major bust. :) However, this is what puts the "madness" in the NCAA tourney. Hopefully, the Minnesota women's team does well against Baylor. And three Big Ten teams in the Elite Eight? To all those naysayers :: jaz sticks out tongue :: :P

What am amazing night with two overtime games! Poor West Virginia leading most of the game, but couldn't put Louisville away. Then Illinois looked done but came back from 15 down to tie it up and send it into overtime. I respect Arizona and Lute Olson, but Illinois really amazed me the way they came back. Arizona just couldn't make the last shots to win. And two more Big Ten teams play tomorrow!

Yeah, its great to see the Illini in the Final Four. MSU has a pretty good shot at beating KY. The team must be pumped after the victory over Duke, the first time that Izzo has beat Mike K's squad. Wisconsin is a long shot over UNC, but , hey, this has been the tourney of upsets! Three Big Ten teams in the Final Four? :) We'll see.

Sadly, the Gopher women lost tonight. Hopefully, they will be back again next year.

How many games have you said this about now? Oh ye of little faith.

I feel sorry for WV and Zona, but que sera, sera. There's a KY team in the Final Four already, and that's good enough for me. Besides, Zona won in 97. It's the Illini's turn to make a go at it.

Wisconsin is going down... I think. As for UK/Mich St, I won't even risk a prediction.

Wisconsin gave it a good shot but North Carolina earned its way to St. Louis. And Michigan State made it two Big Ten teams in the final four! Whoo Hooo! :) The Big Ten - the superior conference? We'll see. Louisville and North Carolina will both be tough opponents. It's been a great weekend of basketball!

Sorry, Ace. Looks like the Wildcats met their match. Ya gotta admit, it was a real "barnburner"! Looks like Louisville will have to bear the torch for KY fans.

Be gentle with me; I'm in mourning. :)

We played pretty well, and despite the outcome, Patrick Sparks is my hero for this week. We most likely would have won in the first overtime if Rondo had driven to the basket instead of passed. I don't think MSU was superior; I just think they wanted it more. It's not fair, though, b/c they knocked us out of the Elite Eight in 2000 too, if I remember right.

I hope North Carolina wipes the floor with them. :)

Watching games like that can't be healthy for people with weak hearts.

I'm going to root for Louisville, even though we at UK will never hear the end of it  .

A- It's a Kentucky team.

B- We BEAT them this yr. That, in effect, could make us look better.

If not them, then UNC. They whooped us this yr, but only by 13.

And Illinois deserves a shot for their great season.

Anyone but Michigan State...

Its Final Four time! This Saturday, the four finalists battle it out. The two victors meet each other on Monday. I'm rooting for an Illinois - UNC game for Monday's championship game. My pick for the eventual champion is:

The Illini by 5 points

Well, the Illini did it! They are into the Championship game for the first time ever!

And it's the matchup many people were looking forward to, against North Carolina. I was rooting for an all big ten final but North Carolina deserves to be playing Monday. They had a great game. Should be a great matchup, but of course I'm rooting for the Illini. It's their year - and they've never won a championship! Go Illini! :wow::wow:
