  1. A dreadnought is something larger and more heavily armed than the standard cruiser. Number of nacelles has nothing to do with it.

Hello Wishfire! Thanks for the reply. It does, however beg the question: is there a vessel with a third engine nacelle, and what is it called? :flowers:

  2. I came across an article at Wikipedia I believe it was a while back, in the ST section, ships....there was a mention of the U.S.S. Entente, and is referenced in radio chatter in ST:The Motion Picture, obviously during the sequence introing the Epsilon Nine outpost, with its listening/comm arrays....this name matching one of the same class listed in Franz Joseph's 'Star Trek Technical Manual'(1975, I believe, original publishing date). Granted, the book isn't canon, by usual standards....but it comes from a legendary early from-the series publication, which I, too, have. (LOTS of starship names in there!)It's the closest thing....

    Greetings Voyager Recruit!

Thanks for the info from Wikipedia and the tech manual. I'll check into them. I am fascinated by the variety of space vessels, and accompanying names, created during the ST era. I may choose to use one as a new avatar. But which one?? Decisions, decisions......... LOL!

  3. If I'm correct, the "Dreadnought" class of star ship - is a vessel similar to the "Enterprise" but with a third engine nacelle between and above the other two. I have seen pictures of them, perhaps at the official Star Trek site. Just a curious thought I had while lying awake. Thanks for any information.

    :yahoo:

The latest word is that there are 5 confirmed dead, with 8 unaccounted for.

I flew into Mpls/St.Paul the day this occurred. I did not see any of the bridge, however. I live south of the Twin Cities, so I don't usually use that bridge unless going to a baseball game at the Metrodome.

I am still stunned at this disaster. Our state prides itself in maintaining its roads, esp. the federal and state

highways. There was an ongoing inspection of this bridge at the time of the collapse.

  5. yes, Jim there are a lot of sad faces in Vikingland. This year goes from bad to worse (i.e. the "Love Boat" incident, for one). The only bright side to this is that........tada!......we are still ahead of the Packers! :dude: I just had to make that little jab, Jim. All in fun. :dude:

  6. A couple of things...

1st, Congratulations Junior! Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Won his first race in 20 attempts yesterday right here practically in my own backyard at the USG Sheetrock 450 at Chicagoland Speedway.

the Chicagoland Races also featured probably one of the coolest cars out there on the circuit...

    Great pic, Jim! :(

  7. I've been watching episodes of DS9 "intermitently" :( that are being aired on Spike TV. I will add my thoughts to this thread on certain episodes here or in another thread. I am beginning to understand why some favor this series over the other ST series, VBG ^^^^ being one. I especially like episode with Vic on the holodeck, giving pointers to Odo on how to woo Major Kira. The kissing scene in the promenade was nice, too.

  8. What a long game for #3, and the first ever in Texas. Yee haw! LOL! I dozed off in the 14th (!) inning, so missed the winning run. As a previous poster said, this may be a sweep. I am still at a loss to understand why the home team cannot make the decision whether to keep the roof open, or to close it. Statistcally, the Astros do much better with it closed. This could be the talk in the off-season, and yet another possible rules change. The Astros stranded a bunch of runners, so it may be they "dropped the ball" in their shot at winning the game. :( It was great game to watch, nonetheless.

  9.

Fortunatly for me my wife likes it; she says it helps her sleep.

 Very funny, AE! However my wife doesn't like my snoring, but says it does comfort her to know I am there beside her, and not elsewhere. LOL! :(

  10. I'm following the World Series. It seems the Sox are getting a lot of help from the refs, either bad calls, or just dumb luck on the part of the players, esp A.J. Per...... ( I won't try to spell his name........lol). Last night, the batter, whose name slips my mind, is given a passed ball, as the ref decided he was hit by the pitcher. On further review, the camera shows that it didn't happen. (!) That occurred in the 9th inning, w/ two outs. That call, blown or not, seemed to have made the difference and allowed the Sox to win again. I guess a win is a win, but this is tough for the Astros. I don't really have a fav, but i hope that the games can be , shall we say, "fairer"? I cannot imagine the feeling that the reffing staff must feel now. Wow!! :)

  11. Its good to see the NHL playing once again. I may need to keep an eye on the Oilers this year, as one of my fav players, Chris Pronger, is no longer with the Blues. I'm not singing "the blues", tho. LOL! :)

  12. So the no. 6 team won the million bucks this pat weekend. Mark seemed duly excited. i guess that he can come back and defend his title next year w/o being a regular in the Cup series. maybe his retirement will be put on hold..........? We will see.

I saw scenes reminicent of TOS. Besides the obvious, the green women to "The Menagerie", it was the banter with T'Pol and her "humor" that I especially liked. The kiss with Trip was a nice touch. I'm eager to see how that plays into the remaining episodes. Will it be "happy ever more", or an unfortunate tragedy that takes one of them away? I don't know, only speculating.

  14. Mark Martin finished in 3rd at Martinsville, and it also put him in 5th place for overall points. Jeff Gordon's attempt to pass Kyle Busch on the inside is questionable, IMO. Even the TV commentators felt that Gordon erred, causing Busch to spin out and crash into the wall. The fact that Gordon won the race doesn't justify it, either. Gordon had demonstrated a lot of skill coming back from 3 laps down to be near the front. His stunt seems to me a cheap shot, not the act of a talented racer. Next week: the Radio Shack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. :dude:
