After attending a clandestine meeting with his old friend Walter Keel and two other Starfleet captain's, Picard orders the Enterprise to return to Earth after Keel's ship is mysterious destroyed. Upon reaching Earth, Admiral Quinn beams aboard. Picard immediately notices his strange behaviour and recalls Quinn's warnings during his previous visit to the Enterprise. Upon investigation, it is discovered that parasites have invaded the bodies of key Starfleet personnel and are influencing their behaviours. The rather gruesome ending in which we discover Remmick has been taken over by the species' "mother creature" and must be killed to save the lives of those infected by the parasites was well done. Before his/its death, we learn the creature sent out a homing beacon to an unexplored region of space.
 
I have read that the original plan was to bring these creatures back in the future. They were replaced by the Borg as the species from the unexplored region of space that could destroy the Federation.

I voted for Picard. As I have stated in other favourite captain polls here, if were in Starfleet I would have no hesitation to put my life in his hands. Archer is creeping up to that category too.
 
I would never trust my life to Kirk. In TOS practically every week there was the unknown crew member who got killed (ok I exagerate).
