Non Sci-fi T.V.

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what tv shows other than sci-fi or fantasy do you watch.

I'm sorry if this has been done...I looked for it and couldn't find it anywhere.

I like to watch...Everwood, The O.C. and Friends :wow:

Apart from Star Trek, I like the following non science fiction shows:

The Sopranos

Silent Witness

Dalziel and Pascoe

Northern Exposure

Father Ted

Red Dwarf

CSI: Miami (I watch this show occassionally)

Without a Trace (again, I watch this show occassionally)

That is about it for me. Apart from Star Trek and The X-Files, there isn't a great deal that I watch on tv.

Reality:

Scrapheap Challenge

COPS

Lad's Army (In which 30 lads go through basic army training from the 50's)

Drama:

I quite like the A&E ones based on the Ancient world i.e. Hail Caesar

Battle Stations

A History of Britain (Simon Schama)

Actually I'll watch any documentary as long as it attempts to give a clear understanding of events rather than force the makers political views on the viewer.

My wife and I watch mostly movies these days but here are some of the shows we frequent.

On a regular basis we watch National Geographic's show called "Worlds Apart". It's a reality show that takes a suburban, middle class family and has them live with a third world family for 10 days. It's very good. Often funny and heartwarming.

We also like Navy NCIS. Good casting and chemistry Better than CSI although it will never get the viewership of CSI.

7th Heaven - very wholesome show that tackles tough subjects. A lesson learned every week. The bad part is the soap opera tendencies it shows at times. At other times it's like a modern day "Walton's".

The Munsters! (reruns) Love this show and try and watch it as often as possible. The classic humor never fails to lift my spirits!

Batman (reruns)- Another very funny, campy show that had excellent writers. People who do not like Batman have either never given it a serious try OR have never really "gotten" it! :assimilated:

I mostly watch animated comedies, shows on TV land, History, A&E and the Discovery channels, those sorts of egghead things. Sports, news, pay channel films round it out.

I still watch the CSI's and Law & Orders - and NCIS & Without a Trace but none of them "religiously"

My new additions since last year:

The Myth Busters (on now)

Numb3rs

and House - which kind of surprises me but the character still manages to surprise me with his verbal aspersions.

I have forsaken all the serial programming - Lost, BSG, Invasion because those types of programs just don't work with me but Invasion was good and I might tape it when CSI:NY goes to reruns.

Non-sci fi TV?

Hmm..well since Lost, 24, and Threshold are all sci-fi.

-Arrested Development (I really hate Fox right now for cancelling that, the show is absolute brilliance)

-My Name is Earl

-The Office

-The Apprentice

-Hockey Night in Canada

-Late Night with Conan O'Brien

-The Daily Show with John Stewart

-Seinfeld

-The West Wing (which is almost sci-fi to an extent, since it takes place in a fictional timeline)

I would like to point out that all of the CSIs have more or less crossed into sci-fi territory since not everything they do is realistic.

24 is sci-fi because it actually does take place in the future (season 5 will likely take place in 2008 or 2009). And again, not everything is factual.

Lost is only mildly sci-fi really since there isn't a lot of science. More like fantasy-drama.

The West Wing takes place in an alternate timeline where there has actually been a different presidential succession since Nixon and the election cycle has shifted by two years. This is the explanation I've read since I've only watched the show since the election to determine Bartlet's successor began in Season 6:

Technically Arrested Development hasn't been cancelled yet. It was pulled from the schedule for sweeps and the episodes ordered was reduced but they haven't actually announced its cancellation. It does seem to be a foregone conclusion though considering everything.

As for my schedule, Threshold is really the only sci-fi I watch other than Trek. There are a number of non-sci-fi series that I enjoy but I don't feel like I have to watch them. Right now there isn't a lot on that truly captivates me.

True enough but it will more or less be cancelled. Which suprised me because the DVDs seem to selling well. It is a niche show but I don't think there is a more brilliantly written comedy on television. This show operates on a whole other level. There are little rumours that someone else may pick it up, like HBO or NBC. If NBC did so they could have a great Tuedsay night comedy line-up, in no particular order: My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, and Arrested Development.

And yes, I love Threshold too Takara.
