The I.R.W. Valdore is back to help save Earth from the evil Shinzon of Remus.

This May, WizKids/NECA will release Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 30 and StarTrek.com has the exclusive First Look at the ships in the upcoming expansion packs, starting with the I.R.W. Valdore (Repaint).

The I.R.W. Valdore is a powerful Romulan vessel that is arguably one of best that the Romulans have to offer. For those who are unfamiliar, the I.R.W. Valdore has a strong primary weapon value of 4 coupled with 2 agility, 6 hull, and 3 shields. What makes the I.R.W. Valdore shine, however, is its ability to add +1 attack die whenever it performs a Green Maneuver. Along with the Cloak and Sensor Echo actions, you would come to expect on any Romulan vessel, the I.R.W. Valdore has it all. Just add an Interphase Generator (RIS Apnex Expansion) and you’re ready to go!

Star Trek, Attack Wing Wave

Inside the I.R.W. Expansion Pack, you will find one of the best and most played Captain Cards in the game. Donatra is a Romulan Captain with a Captain Skill of 6. Her special ability allows all other friendly ships within Range 1 of your ships to gain +1 attack dice. As long as you can keep your fleet in a tight formation, every other friendly ship within Range 1 will get +1 attack dice. This is a very powerful effect that you will see time and time again because it is just that good.

Star Trek, Attack Wing Wave

Tactical Officer is a Crew Upgrade that might not get the same kind of attention as Donatra, but is nonetheless a powerful Upgrade found only in the I.R.W. Valdore Expansion Pack. Tactical Officer allows you to re-roll each of your attack dice one additional time after you use your Target Lock to re-roll your attack dice. Re-rolling your attack dice is very valuable, but getting to do it again if things don’t turn out exactly like you wanted is almost a dream come true. With two re-rolls, you are almost guaranteed to do some serious damage.

Star Trek, Attack Wing Wave

The I.R.W. Valdore Expansion Pack also includes the scenario: Destroy the Scimitar where you can re-enact the most exciting and memorable moments from the movie, Star Trek Nemesis. You must work together with other players to complete this cooperative adventure. Can you stop the Scimitar before it destroys the planet Earth?

Even if you already own the I.R.W. Valdore, you are going to want to purchase the new repaint both for the dynamic new paint job as well as the great upgrades contained within it. Contact your local game store to reserve your copy now.

Red Alert! The Borg are invading Gale Force Nine’s Star Trek: Ascendancy hobby board game later this year. The Borg Assimilation expansion adds an all-new threat to the game. The Borg are an independent menace, attacking players’ ships and assimilating civilized worlds. If the Borg are not dealt with, they could overwhelm the Galaxy. Can the great civilizations put aside their rivalries long enough to face the Borg as a united front? Or will they try to combat the Borg onslaught individually, seizing Borg technology for themselves?

insetborg11.jpg

The game expansion contains everything you need to add this galactic threat to your game, including a Borg Command Console and Cube Combat Card, 6 Borg Cubes and 6 Borg Spires game pieces, and 18 Borg Assimilation Nodes, as well as 20 Borg Tech Cards, 30 Borg Command Cards, 7 new System Discs and 20 Borg-themed Exploration Cards.

The Borg can imperil the game in two ways. Players will encounter the Borg while exploring the Galaxy; a ship may discover a Borg Cube when they explore a new system or they may discover an entire planet that has already been assimilated by the Borg and is the process of constructing a Borg Cube. Or players may start the game with the Borg invading the Alpha Quadrant by starting with the Transwarp Hub System in play. Each turn, a Borg Cube may emerge from the Transwarp Hub and attempt to assimilate players and neutral civilizations. Any System assimilated by the Borg will begin to build new Borg Cubes.

inset268.jpg

The Borg are controlled by a unique Command Deck. During a game round, the Borg take a turn, just as if they were a player. When the Borg turn begins, they build new Assimilation Nodes on Borg-controlled worlds. When enough nodes have been built, the Borg World launches a new Cube. Each Cube then takes a series of actions. First a Cube will engage any players’ ships in adjacent Sectors in space combat. A Borg Cube is formidable in battle, so players with have to muster vast fleets of Starships if they hope to defeat the Borg. The Borg attack indiscriminately, so players from opposing factions may find themselves making a stand together against the Cube.

inset351.jpg

Next, a Borg Command Card is drawn for the Cube and the Cube will execute the orders on that card, often moving towards developed star systems targeted for assimilation. Finally, if Cube ends its movement in a developed system, it will attack the world in an attempt to assimilate the population and its technology. If successful, the Borg will erect a Spire on the planet to harvest its resources and construct additional Cubes. Then the next Cube will execute its actions until every Cube in play has taken a turn. Unless players can deal with the onslaught of the Borg, they threaten to overrun the quadrant.

While the Borg represent an existential threat to the entire Galaxy, a player’s goal remains the same: to become the dominant civilization - either through cultural ascendancy or military conquest. The onslaught of the Borg makes that goal much more difficult to achieve.

It's all hands to battle stations when Star Trek: Ascendancy – Borg Assimilation invades game stores in late summer!

The Klingon Defense Force has ordered the I.K.S. Koraga back into battle.

This May, WizKids/NECA will release Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 30 and StarTrek.com has the exclusive First Look at the ships in the upcoming expansion packs, concluding with the I.K.S. Koraga (Repaint).

The I.K.S. Koraga is a Klingon K’Vort-class Bird-of-Prey. As one of the largest of its kind, the K’Vort-class is more heavily armed and able to carry a larger crew than other Klingon Birds-of-Prey. As such, it is often used on missions in dangerous regions of space and is a formidable foe in battle.

Star Trek

When you think of Klingons, Cloaking Technology is one of the first things that should come to mind. So, it’s no surprise that one of the best Cloaking Upgrades available can be found in the I.K.S. Koraga Expansion Pack. Advanced Weapon System allows you to disable this upgrade before rolling any dice to keep your Cloak Token from flipping to its red side. Although this upgrade is also included in the Starter Set, it is so good that you are going to want more than one copy.

Another incredibly powerful upgrade found in the I.K.S. Koraga Expansion Pack is Alexander. Each time your ship is hit for at least 1 damage, place 1 Battle Stations Token on this card. During the Activation Phase, you may take 1 Battle Stations Token off this card and place it beside your ship. If you have a way to heal/repair or otherwise take a large number of hits, Alexander will be a constant source of Battle Stations Tokens allowing you to use your Action for other things like Cloaking or Target Locks.

Star Trek

Last, but certainly not least, is possibly the best Klingon Crew Upgrade of them all, N’Garen. As an Action, you may convert 1 of your Battle Stations results into a Critical Hit and all your other Battle Stations Results with hit results. Like a super Battle Station, N’Garen makes any roll, beside blanks, a hit. Want to guarantee maximum carnage? Add Kor (I.K.S. Ning’Tao Expansion Pack) as your Captain and re-roll your way to victory.

Even if you already own the I.K.S. Koraga you are going to want to purchase the new repaint for both its dynamic new paint job as well as the world class upgrades contained within it. Contact your local game store to reserve your copy now.

A Borg Cube is one of the most formidable challenges players can face in Gale Force Nine’s Star Trek: Ascendancy – Borg Assimilation Game Expansion. Confrontation with one of these engines of destruction is inevitable. Caught unprepared, a battle with the Borg can be devastating. When one civilization brings the full weight of their fleets to bear or teams with a rival civilization to confront a Cube, the Borg can be defeated, often at great cost.

Star Trek

A Space Battle against a Borg Cube is similar to a battle between players with a few key differences. On the Borg turn, each player will choose a Borg Cube in play to activate. The Cube’s first action will be to initiate a Space Battle with every Starship in the same and adjacent Sectors. In this way, two or more different players can find themselves battling the Borg together.

A Borg Cube has nine attack dice. For each hit that player’s inflict on a Borg Cube, the Borg will lose one of those dice. When an attack die is lost, it is placed on the Borg Combat Card, when all nine dice are on the card, the Cube is destroyed.

The Borg are nothing if not resilient. During a prolonged Space Battle, the Borg will adapt to the players’ attacks. When combat begins, a Cube will have no shield modifier. At the start of each round, the Borg Shield modifier will increase by one until it reaches a modifier of four. The shield modifier increases the difficulty of a player to hit an opponent in a Space Battle. Players may find that the Borg become invulnerable to attack if they are not defeated quickly.

Star Trek

A Borg Cube can also repair the damage done to it. When the Borg attack player ships, they roll their nine attack dice, minus any dice placed on the Combat Card. For each six that the Borg rolls in the combat, they remove one of the dice from the Combat Card and add it back to their attack dice pool. Each hit the Borg inflict will destroy a player Ship, if there are multiple players involved in the Space Battle, the Borg hits are divided evenly among the player’s Ships. The target number the Borg need to roll in order to hit starts at five, however that number lowers as more worlds are assimilated by the Borg. The more planets the Borg control in the Alpha Quadrant, the more effective their attacks are against the species of the Quadrant.

The Borg are not without their weaknesses, however. The Borg rarely regard the species of the Alpha Quadrant as a threat until they attack the Borg. This means that in a Space Battle, players get a First Strike attack in the first round of combat. This is their only chance to inflict as much damage as they can against a Cube before the Cube returns fire. After that first round of combat, attacks occur simultaneously with players and the Borg rolling their attack die at the same time, until one foe retreats or is destroyed. The Borg never retreat.

Star Trek

When players defeat a Borg Cube, each player involved in the battle claims a Borg Tech Card. These cards represent tactics that can be used against the Borg in future battles or advancements and advantages that a player may use for the rest of the game.

Raise your shields and charge phasers when the Borg invade GF9’s Star Trek: Ascendancy with the Borg Assimilation Game Expansion, available later this year. Players will get their first hand-on experience with the Borg in August at Gen Con 50 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Keep your sensors scanning at http://startrek.gf9games.com/ for more information about Star Trek: Ascendancy and the Borg Assimilation Game Expansion.
