Captain Holland 0 Posted October 31, 2003 (edited) I didn't mean just put down numbers. I meant what is the biggest number you know and just putting down numbers doesn't count, you have to know what it is called. Yellow_Dragon 0 Posted November 1, 2003 The American mathematician edward Kasner once asked his 9-year old nephew to invent a name for an extremely large number...ten to the power of one-hundred(a one followed by a hundred zeroes). The boy called it a Googol. Anybody can make up a nonsense term for a larger number,so they do all count,Captain Holland. I'm not sure CJLP wins, though. That Infiniplex seems to be the infinity equivalent of a googolplex, making it infinity to the power of infinity.Yikes.

master_q 0 Posted November 1, 2003 How about the number of digits in Pi? Has it ever been fully calculated? Pi is an irrational number. So it has an infinite nonrepeating decimal representation. In case you don't know what pi is (most lower level math class just say "pi" but never tell you what it means) . . . . Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (it is constant with all circles) Master Q StarTrek_Master_Q@yahoo.com
Xeroc 0 Posted November 2, 2003 I am quite sure there is no "official" naming system for numbers above a googleplex (in fact, the semi-official system doesn't even go that far) Also, since infinity is really just a concept and not a true number, I don't that that counts. (and since it is a concept infinty^infinity is just infinity) However, using that semi-offical naming convention you can call a googol "10 duotrigintillion" and using an even less official convention you could name a number "millinillitrillion" which is equivalent to (American) 10^3000012, or (British) 10^6000018. If we were to name a googleplex with this system it would take up a huge amount of room.

It is like talking about the real plane and then throwing in an example of imaginary #s when the defining terms of the topic does not warrant it. I guess it depends on how you look at it, but I [again] would have to say no that does not sound right Master Q StarTrek_Master_Q@yahoo.com
