Abrams To Reboot Alias?

Recommended Posts

Rumor has it that ABC is considering a reboot of J.J. AbramsAlias.

With Lost having come to an end, word is that the network is hoping to keep some of Lost’s audience with the reboot of Alias.

The new version of Alias, if it happens, would use some elements of the original series. Alias, which ran from 2001-2006, was the story of a spy, Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner), who had to conceal her true career from friends and family while working for the CIA.

According to E!, the reboot would probably not include plot elements such as the Milo Rambaldi prophecy storyline.

Another Abrams spy show, Undercovers, will be airing this fall on NBC. Undercovers features a married couple who are both spies.

Sounds more like a spinoff than a reboot. The article doesn't mention it but ABC is facing a difficult situation. They've lost their best drama (LOST) and the others are bleeding viewers (i.e. Grey's Anatomy, etc) and they only renewed one new drama (V) and that was a marginal success at best. There's a very realistic possibility that they could be in 4th in short order. So them wanting something with some brand recognition and some producer clout isn't a bad move. Of course they should also keep in mind that Alias more or less petered out and went off very quietly. Perhaps not the best choice, but maybe they just want Abrams back in their fold to an extent.

They just need better phrasing. Reboot seems misused here.
