Kor37 9 Posted November 13, 2008 Turkish Town of Batman Sues For 'Dark Knight' RoyaltiesNov 12th 2008 By Tom Radler If you ask the mayor of Batman, Turkey why he's so serious, he'll probably tell you it's because Warner Bros. and "Dark Knight" filmmakers used his city's name without permission. "There is only one Batman in the world," says mayor Huseyin Kalkan, who is seeking royalties. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us." Batman is a Kurdish oil-producing town in southeast Turkey, and Kalkan is blaming the film for having caused several unsolved murders, and elevating the rate of female suicide in the city -- based on the psychological impact that the film's success has had. He also says he has evidence that Batman, the city, existed before the comic was created in 1939. It seems the town's lawyers may have their hands full arguing that Batman's get-up is actually derived from a Kurdish oil town, as opposed to the winged mammal. Then again, the Batmobile does get a rather low MPG. Yeah.....uhhh.....good luck with that.......
Odie 0 Posted November 13, 2008 The mayor has to show proof that the creators of Batman took the name of the city for the comic book hero. Other than that he will not get a dime. If he does win Buffalo, New York should sue everyone that uses "Buffalo style..." The city should could use the money! :)
TJ Phaserman 2 Posted November 13, 2008 thats almost as stupid as some guy parading around metropolis, il claiming his superman...and later suing DC comics for using his name and image without permission, when DC themselves can prove superman has been around since as long as the batman comic itself... He Who Shall Not Be Named 2 Posted November 14, 2008 This goes back several decades, but the character's name used to be "The Bat-Man", and it was pretty obvious it was a man disguised as a giant bat, before it was shortened to Batman.
