We've kicked around the idea of having a board get together for the past 5 years, The Experience was always a major focus of where we'd have it if we ever had one though. With the closure of the Experience in a few days it doesn't look like that's going to be a possibility unless it's picked up by another location. That being the case I'm just wondering when would be the best time for as many people to go that want to and where would be the best location.

Las Vegas is an obvious choice if the convention is there, even without the Experience. But there are other locations that could be a lot of fun and give some good activities for a vacation.

So if we do it, where would you like to have it held?

I've put a few choices above in the poll, each has it's attractions.

Vegas simply because it's Vegas and if the convention is there then that's an obvious choice.

Orlando is a great place to visit too, it has all of the Disney parks as well as Universal and the Kennedy Space Center isn't far from Orlando. It'd be great if we could plan it around a shuttle launch and go see it.

D.C. has the Air & Space Museum with the TOS Enterprise inside it as well as a host of other great museums and sites to see and if we do it in D.C., with a big enough group we could set up a tour of the White House.

Those are the 3 places that I could think of off the top of my head, so where would you like to do it and when? I think we could have a blast at any of the locations I mentioned so for me it's just a matter of when?

Summer 2009 in Vegas during the convention gets my vote..Those other choices sound great too but it's not very likely I'd be able to attend..I'll be at the Vegas convention anyway..

I am swamped in 2009, but if it's in Vegas I may be able to go. Robert and probably Kelly would be going with me so Vegas is the easiest for us being close to Phoenix. Summer 2010 in Vegas gets my vote.

With my school schedule Summer 2010 would probably work best for me since I should be finishing my associates degree in April 2010. As for location, I am pretty much open on that one. Although I would absolutely flip for the chance to see a space shuttle launch.

For it really does not matter. I really don't know what my schedule looks like at the beginning of the year. Anyway, once I know it I will be able to tell if I can go 2009 or 2010.

If you guys decide to try Vegas count me in either year. The other possibilities are possible , but less certain depending on the time of year. If we do decide to go to Vegas, the sooner we decide the more flexibility on what seats we might get, if we are interested in sitting near each other. We can always get together at other spots too!

If I were able to go it would have to be 2010 at the earliest. If I could get away alone then Vegas would be great. If my daughter doesn't want to let me have a holiday alone then Disney World would be great. I think Vegas might be too much for her.

Vegas 2010 would be best for me (and my husband), since we live in Southern California. 2009 might be a little too soon, but not impossible.

No cross country trips in the budget for me at least thru 2009. They have conventions in Orlando as well, maybe not as large but they have them and if you're thinking Florida - let me suggest Oct thru April. I hope someday to do the shuttle launch as well.

Looks like 2010 in Vegas during a convention is leading the way. (Sounds like something out of the game Clue lol)

Well, darn. My daughter and I are going to the Convention in 2009, 2010 is too far away to plan anything like that. But I guess we'll see as the time draws nearer.

I would love to get back down to Orlando, last time I was there was 1997 and we had a blast.

There's a number of people that have voted for both too so we very well could end up doing both. We've got a lot of time to plan though. I'd love to be able to do something each year going forward though.

STAR TREK VEGAS 2009:

WILLIAM SHATNER TO HEADLINE!

As amazing and fun-filled as the 2008 Official STAR TREK Convention was this past August, one man was missing and that man is "the man" WILLIAM SHATNER! The very first thing we did in planning The 2009 Official STAR TREK Convention (August 6-9, 2009 at The Las Vegas Hilton Hotel) was to invite Bill to headline the event. We're thankful Bill accepted our invitation!

2009 will certainly be "The Year of Star Trek". With the blockbuster new STAR TREK feature film opening in May and literally tons of new cool products and promotions coming as well, the Star Trek community is pumped up for all the excitement. We're planning for the biggest and best Star Trek convention ever, with 70 guests, tons of parties, events and attractions.

Its such a shame that the convention will be at the Hilton after they axed The Experience. I, for one, never want to set foot in that dump again.

I believe its at the Hilton. Creation books these things way in advance. I don't believe they could get out of it for 2009 but I would be shocked if the con were held at the Hilton after next year.

I thought that the convention was actuallly held in the convention center..Is that controlled by the Hilton? Quite possible..they are connected and accessed just but walking thru the casino..Creation was announcing at this past convention that they will have something special planned for next year in the absence of The Experience ..Since there will be no Quarks to have the parties at..We'll have to wait and see what they come up with..And I'm very interested in seeing where this coonvention goes in 2010..

I don't know how many people remember this but before The Experience made its debut, the big annual Creation convention was held in Long Beach, California every year for a long time.

I thought the same thing, that it was at the convention center which has a separate stop on the monorail before the Hilton stop. But having never been to a convention I wasn't sure.

I'm disappointed that the Hilton forced the closure of the Experience, and I've never seen more than the main lobby and the area where the Experience is but the little bit that I saw didn't look like a dump. Of course being almost 40 years old I can well imagine that it's pretty well aged. I'll never stay there but I'll always habe a "soft spot" for it for 2 reasons. It hosted the Experience for 10 years and it hosted my all time favorite singer, Elvis for 8 years (that's why I got the pic next to the statue lol).

Hmm, must be 2 different convention centers as this one doesn't have it's own monorail stop..Perhaps the convention IS at the Hilton..But I won't stay at the Hilton again..I stayed there a few times for previous conventions..It's nice but I don't feel it's worth the price..Last year I stayed at the Sahara, I was looking to go as cheaply as possible..I was quite comfortable there and very likely I will stay there again..

I'm not sure where the convention was but the convention center is right next to the Hilton and I believe is connected to it. Here's what the Monorail site says and looks like:

Looks like I could have taken the monorail stop for the convention center and done the same thing, walk to the Star Trek convention..Is the convention center associated with the Hilton? That's the big question..This seems likely because Creation posts that they will be at the Hilton for 2009..

This is what Wikipedia says:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_Hilton

The Las Vegas Hilton is a hotel, casino, and convention center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is a joint venture between Colony Capital, which owns 60 percent, and New York City-based REIT Whitehall Street Real Estate Funds, which owns the remaining 40 percent.[1] With 3,174 hotel rooms, this off-Strip hotel is the largest Hilton Hotel in the world and one of the largest hotel-casinos in Las Vegas. Located on 64 acres (324,000 m²), it has a 100,000 square foot (9,000 m²) casino and is also home to the largest sports book in Las Vegas.

The hotel is located next to the Las Vegas Convention Center and with its own 3,200,000-square-foot (297,000 m2) convention center.

The hotel also houses Star Trek: The Experience and is a stop on the Las Vegas Monorail.

So it sounds like it has it's own convention center and is next to the Las Vegas Convention Center. If I'm reading it right they are separate but next to each other.

By "dump", I mean by Las Vegas standards. If the Las Vegas Hilton was in a regular town, it would certainly be considered one the best hotels. However, most of the hotels in Vegas have far surpassed the Hilton. I've stayed in many of them. I also appreciate the fact that Elvis played there when it wasn't the Hilton but the Las Vegas International.
