RikerChick 5 Posted July 6, 2008 I tried to get a picture of this tonight but it didn't come out. Saturday, July 5 In twilight, look for the waxing crescent Moon to the lower right of Saturn, Mars, and Regulus, as shown above. The three points form a nice even lineup this evening and tomorrow evening — looking rather like Orion's Belt knocked out of place and out of season. Sunday, July 6 The thickening crescent Moon is now to the left of Saturn, Mars, and Regulus at dusk, as shown above. A dawn challenge: On Monday morning, writes David Likuski, "at 5 a.m. EDT, Mercury (magnitude –0.1) forms a close conjunction with the star Zeta Tauri (magnitude +3.0), 11 arcminutes apart as seen from mid-northern latitudes. Western viewers can catch the conjunction almost as well three hours later, at about 20 arcminutes." Bring binoculars or a wide-field telescope.
