Are You Ready to Beam Up?

His Scottish brogue defined ship engineers for an entire generation of television viewers. Now Kids Need to Read Auctions offers an 8x10 color photo of stalwart, Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the engine room of the USS Enterprise. We are fortunate indeed to have our photo signed by the man who played him, the versatile actor James Doohan, who passed away in 2005. In real life, James Doohan was one of the most accessible, warm and giving stars of the Star Trek franchise.

Kids Need to Read Charity Auctions is thrilled to offer this prized collectible. Beam over to http://community.kidsneedtoread.org/?p=318 to see the photograph, and follow the links in the blog to place your bid on eBay! The auction ends on February 24, 2008.

All of Kids Need to Read’s proceeds for February will go to support the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic in Seattle, Washington. Through the Reach Out and Read © Program (ROR), the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic can give new books to children between the ages of six months through five years at each well child check. Once a child turns six, they are no longer able to provide new books through ROR and rely solely on the generous support of individuals, companies and organizations. Kids Need to Read would like to help supply books for the clinic’s older children not served by ROR. The proceeds from this auction will help Kids Need to Read, the charity project founded by author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion, achieve that goal.
