Word leaked out today that Paramount may be looking to cast actor Chris Pine in the role of James T. Kirk.

According to an article in today's edition of the Hollywood Reporter, Pine is currently being courted by both Paramount for the new Star Trek film, and by Cherry Road Films for White Jazz, a new adaptation of the James Ellroy novel that will star George Clooney. The trade paper mentioned that Pine's biggest role to date has been the 2006 Lindsay Lohan flop, but noted that if Pine does manage to land a part in both movies, this might just make him "the hottest new actor in town."

Unfortunately for Pine, actually getting to do both films might end up being physically impossible. The new Star Trek film will be shooting from November through March, while White Jazz will start filming in mid-January. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Paramount and Cherry Road are trying to work out scheduling so Pine will be able to take on both roles, but also noted that "studio is looking for backup actors to have on deck," in case Pine is forced to drop Star Trek.

Chris Pine comes from a real Hollywood family. His grandmother Anne Gwynne was one of the most famous "scream queens" from the fourties, while his father Robert Pine starred on CHiPs, as well as the soap operas Days of our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful. Pine had his first acting role in a 2003 episode of ER, and later made appearances on series such as The Guardian, CSI: Miami and Six Feet Under. Next year, he will appear in the indie drama Bottle Shock.
