Suspiria (The female Caretaker)

Recommended Posts

I posted this at ST.com, but I wasn't getting any good answers (or, really, any at all), so I figured I'd try here...

How was it decided to name the female Caretaker Suspiria? Was she named after the Italian horror film of the 70's?

Guess st.com is innocent on having no replies.

Imagine all the Caretakers had went to a big Caretaker convention at a Ramada or something and Voyager stopped off so Janeway could use the loo, in episode 1.02

Janeway: Excuse me, where are the ladies?

Female Caretaker; Oh just down the hallway. they're really clean.

Janeway: What's going on in there?

Female Caretaker: Oh just the annual Delta Quadrant Caretaker convention ... they're all there.

Janeway: (shock) I'll be right back

[dashes to Voyager]

Janeway: Hey guess what everybody...

[bIG EXPLOSION AS RAMADA BLOWS UP]

Janeway: Never mind...

Apparently Suspiria is a latin word that means: to sigh, draw a deep breath, long for, yearn for, yearn after

The long for or yearn for seems to make sense given Suspiria's situation.

It's also a title of a Longfellow poem - probably based on the same latin meaning.
