The correct answer is teal. It is closer to green than blue, but you need to have a really good TV to see the subtle difference.

It would make sense for Medical to have their own color. After all, you do need them to be recognised quickly, no?

Yup. I stand by teal leaning towards green.

First of all, as I said earlier, medical should have their own color so you could differentiate them from scientific personnel in a crisis. When you are pressed for time you wouldn't want to take your plasma burn to an archaeologist.

You might say "What about engineers and security? They have the same uniform." Yes and no. In a crisis security are going to be armed. You would spot them easily even though everything else is the same. Plus in a military setting wearable equipment, such as holstered phasers, are considered part of the uniform just as handcuffs (and weapons) are considered part of a cop's uniform.

Second, while doctors are scientific, they are not scientists in that they are not doing research or experimentation per se. Granted sometimes they do engage in medical research, and in this case they are acting as scientists, but it isn't the norm.

Third, doctors are noncombattants and need to be recognized easily as such. Now of course when someone is a "noncombatant" in today's language it usually means that there is some international rules of engagement, such as our Geneva Convention, that specifies themselves as such. We don't know if the same thing exists in the 24th century but it isn't unreasonable to speculate the existance of such.

Now what we don't know is if this color scheme was maintained when the colored shirts and colored shoulders were replaced with those very thin color bands at the wrist and at the neck. There just isn't enough material to tell.
