I asked a question about what job people would not want, three of us really didn't like the idea of being the Captain... So how about you? Can be any ship...any timeframe..

I voted No..So much responsibility..It would just be too much pressure and stress for me.!..I have a hard time dealing with stress..And I am a very nervous person who has a hard time making decisions! Not an ideal Captain!...However I could be a good First Officer or Helmsman..!

Definitely no. I would not want to be the captain of a starship (only if I had to choose between counselor and captain-then I would choose captain :( ) . So much responsibility for so many lives... One wrong decision and it's all over... No. Definitely not...

But on the other hand... so much power... everyone does what YOU want

No! A definite no! A resounding no! Not if the only way to avoid the job was eating some of Neelix's cooking! (Though I hope it does not come down to that.)

If you'll look, though, I posted on that reference thread that I didn't want to be a captain (or anything resembling command) either, so your original count is four. ^-^;;

Like I said there, I'd rather be the nameless ensign. I'd rather have the higher up people look at me and say "Ensign... uh... whatsyourname?" And don't tell me that job's not important! Because it is! Who does all the dirty work? Who makes sure the ship's running the way it should? Who scrubs those dirty plasma conduits? Who crawls through Jeffries tubes fixing whatever it is that needs fixing? Who dies so that the main characters don't have to? The ensigns, that's who! I'd be proud to be a Starfleet ensign. Hence the "ensign" part of my screen name.

Ready to serve, Sir!

Since I am finishing my Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies-Biology, Chemistry, Physics...and wish to one day be a research scientist, and ultimate goal is to be a mission specialist on a shuttle mission...I bet it is pretty obvious that I would prefer a job in the science field...and as I said once in another post...especially stellar cartography :( !

I also was one of the three....four, I stand corrected, thank you ensign_beedrill.

I also feel that it is not quite the responsibility I dont want...it is the type of reponsibility, one wronmg decision as Mrs.Picard said, it is all over. I prefer responsibility to a lab and projects, to get my job done and done well.

I don't think i would be a good captain, but first or second officer, yes. I think i could do well with an away team and even first contact, if i had the training (which you would get, of course). I can follow and i can lead and there have been may times on my life when people would defer to my even if i was the younger one. I work well in a crisis, too. But, the role of captain, I think would be too much for me, since it causes you to put up a sort of wall between you and your crew. I don’t work that way. I try to find something in everyone to like.

And ensign_beedrill, you are soooo right! The tough jobs always go to the low man on the totem pole.

I would definitely like to be a starship captain.

Yes, there is a great responsibility for the many lives under your direct command, and those involved in a "situation", i.e. on a planet's surface, etc.. But I imagine the rewards of bringing a situation to a peaceful conclusion, exploring uncharted territory, discovering new species, making first contact, etc. would be immense.

I deal with people under me on a daily basis, and I think I treat them fairly. As a result, I also feel I could handle a crew in a fair and even-handed manner. I'm a firm believer in rewarding and promoting by merit, not necessarily by time served or politicking.

However as Mrs. Picard said:

So much responsibility for so many lives... One wrong decision and it's all over...

Yes, we all die at some point. At least it would be quick and hopefully in a blaze of glory.

Yillara, no is still winning.

Cool, thanks for telling me Data! I kinda figured this would be a rather even split...

And I was one of the three who hated the idea, so I don't think my answer will be hard to guess

I am the third of three from that topic, so my answer is the same. Ic ould never be captain! too much responsibility..

After the proper training and the experiences, yes, I would like it.

A lot of responsability, but a real chalenge.

I agree, there's a lot of tough choices that need to be made and it can't be done with out training. So no until I have training.

I said no, because I know I am not responsible enough for the job. To risk the life of a crew and yourself with every decision you make would make me feel too pressured. I do love pressure situations, but that is way too much, I even think that a captain has more responsibility than a president, beucase a captain has to go into unknown dangers, a president just has a four year term (big woop)

 Bel Ami ;)

I would love to be a captain! I think I could handle the responsibility. If I couldn't be a captain I think I would be the ships counselor because I'm also interested in sycology (spelling).

I voted no i wouldn't mind being the first officer though. Less responsibility and more away missions (in theory)
