I've honestly never watched it!

Recommended Posts

I have a confession.

I ahve never seen an episode of DS9.

I'm about to buy season 1 on DVD and was wondering, what do you think of the series.

Better that the others?

I just find the concept of a space station so boring, u know wat I mean?

like, I don't really understand how it can achieve missions and such!

anyway, any advice would be appreciated!

out of all of the series set in the 24th century (TNG, DS9, VOY) DS9 is one of the best. Half of the Trek fans say it's on the same level as TNG and others say it's better than TNG.

It being set on a space station doesn't hurt the storyline at all. New people come on DS9 every day, so each episode is always different. And they don't stay on the station all of the time, they take shuttlepods and eventually go through the worm hole.

Not to mention towards the end of the series they have the Dominion War, which is a huge war fought by many. Overall, DS9 is a fantastic series that you are missing out on. If it doesn't come on TV were you live, get the DVD! :)

It's my opinion that DS9 is the best of any of the Trek series, season 1 was a good start but not it's best season. You'll really need to see the other seasons along with season 1 in order to "get it".

Once you get the DVD's let us know what you think, if you feel like sharing your thoughts on each episode I'd be very interested.

Watch the whole series.

Then you'll understand.

I agree with VaBeachGuy's comment that you should keep watching beyond season 1 to really get into the series. It is imho right up there with TNG and has the best character development of any Trek series. You're going to love it!

If anything, it being based on a space station makes it better than the other series'. As I have said, this is the soap opera of Star Trek.

just wondering.

I saw on the TNG season 2 videos trailers for DS9.

I saw a guy that looks like he can turn into water!

I think his names Odo.

What's he like?

The next Data?

Odo is a shapeshifter. The security officer on DS9. He has a great backstory, and Rene Auberjonois does a great job in the role.

Oh, very serious mostly, but he does have his comedic moments. Especially with the Ferengi bartender, Quark. Their relationship is great.

Odo is serious but has some great comedy also and in later seasons romance. DS9 is the kind of series where you can't really pick a favorite character though because your favorite character will likely be the one that the last episode you watched was centered around. One day Dax will be your favorite, the next it's Quark or Miles and the next it's Worf, Sisko or Julian.

As was said, DS9 has awesome character development which was really possible because of the setting being on a space station. They don't have to spend time each week introducing the audience to this week's location because the location (for the most part) stays the same. Rather then have the crew go out to find adventure the adventure comes to them. Some episodes will be all about developing the characters and their relationships with one another.

Great, great series. I wish it had run 14 years instead of 7.

My Early Review

Well, It arrived today, Brand new in a dark purple case.

My heart was jumping around wildly.

I riped open the wrapping, and kissed the first disk.

I switched on my laptop and popped it in.

Interesting start.

I thought the death of Sisko's wife was an interesting touch.

I really liked how it mixed in with TNG.

ok, so I start to see the sory take off.

When I saw the Bajoran Major, my mouth dropped with drool.

SHE'S HOT!!!!

Then I saw the Science officer come abored.

Luitenant Dax (i think her name is)

Again, my mouth dropped.

SHE'S EVEN MORE HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was quite annoying with the Cardassians.

Other people might like them, but I find them quite boring.

My first view of the first episode was......

*snores*

Quite boring

I have always hated first episodes.

An example would be Voyager, I watched the first episode and switched it off before it finished.

But...

2 months later I was so hooked to the show, I worshiped Janeway.

So, first episdoe was boring, but I won't judge anything yet.

I'm about to watch the second episode.

I will let you know of my thoughts

Cheers

First episodes can tend to be more informatioal rather then action or story based, it's really needed though from the stand point of introducing the regulars and the setting.

DS9, like TNG and Voyager didn't really hit it's stride until around it's 3rd season but being biased toward DS9 I have to say DS9's first 2 seasons were better then TNG's and Voyagers. But being honest, it's my belief that Enterprise had the strongest first 2 seasons of any of the "modern" Trek series.

Anyway, as the series goes along I think you'll grow to really like the Cardassians. In fact once you watch episode 2 I think you'll have found an "interesting Cardie" in Garrak.

Keep us posted.

I'VE NOW NEARLY FINISHED THE FIRST SEASON!!!!!!

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quark and Odo rule!

I love the fights they have! LOL!

I think it was hilarious in that episode..

umm...

When everybody has halucinations!

I couldn't stop laughing wen Dax (imagination version) came on!!!

"Oh Julian, Kiss me you fool"

HAHAHAHA

Though I was enraged with jeolesy, a very good episode

I never like the Ferengi until now.

Quark is so funny!

Odo rocks too.

One thing I was wondering, I hear all talk about the USS Defiant coming onto the show, and having a VERY big part.

On the second disk, there is a picture of the Defiant.

But, I havn't seen it yet on the first season

I am now about to watch the last disk.

Thanks for the advice

I'm definetly going down to K-mart next week to pick up season 2

They're on special now for $80

Cheers

You won't see the Defiant until the first episode of season 3.

If you're loving season 1 then you're in for a great ride with the other 6 seasons, they get better each season and build to an awesome ending in season 7.

With season 2 you will get to see the very first 3 part episode in Star Trek history with the first 3 episodes of the season.

As for the Ferengi, they are great and you will have many Ferengi episodes to get to know them better. Quark has always been one of my favorites.

But, is the Defiant a big part of DS9?

356848

Yes, from season 2 through the end of season 7 it's the primary ship of the show. Unlike TOS, TNG, Voyager and Enterprise though the main focus of the show remains on the station. The ship is used more as a "prop" rather then as their primary "home".

Is is sort of like a run about to help with all the stuff to do with the worm hole.?

Except this "Run about" has warp drive?

No, it's not at all like a runabout, unless you consider a runabout to be an "armed to the teeth battleship".

The Defiant is more like the Entertprise or Voyager, it's a Starship only the difference is that Defiant was built for battle and not exploration.

ah, so like extra protection?

oh, who pilots it btw?

357009

Several people command the Defiant at different times, when Sisko is onboard he's in command, sometimes Kira is in command and later in the series it may be Worf or Dax.

As for who pilots it, you should think of the Defiant as a starship and not as a shuttle where as you might see Wesley piloting a shuttle from one place to another. The Defiant, being a Starship has a helm and if memory serves correctly Dax is at the helm a lot.
