Gospel Songs

Recommended Posts

Since we have a topic on Bible Scriptures, I was just wondering what is your favorite song if you have one? My favorite song of all time is Daystar (Shine Down On Me). I just have to hear one line of the song and I'm broken in tears, it is the most personal song that comes the closest to my prayer that I've ever heard and it touches me each time I hear it. Anyway, here are the lyrics

Lily of the Valley, let your sweet aroma fill my life

Rose of Sharon show me how to grow in beauty in God's sight

Fairest of ten thousand make me a reflection of your light

Daystar shine down on me let your love shine through me in the night

Lead me Lord, I'll follow. Anywhere you open up the door

Let your word speak to me, show me what I've never seen before

Lord I want to be your witness, you can take what's wrong and make it right

Daystar shine down on me, let your love shine through me in the night

Lord I've seen a world that's dying wounded by the master of deceit

Groping in the darkness, haunted by the years of past defeat

But when I see you standing near me shining with compassion in your eyes

I pray Jesus shine down on me let your love shine through me in the night

Lead me Lord, I'll follow anywhere you open up the door

Let your word speak to me, show me what I've never seen before

Lord I want to be your witness, you can take what's wrong and make it right

Daystar shine down on me, let your love shine through me in the night

Do you have a fav. song

I'LL FLY AWAY

Some glad morning when this life is o'er,

I'll fly away;

To a home on God's celestial shore,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

[Chorus]

I'll fly away, Oh Glory

I'll fly away; (in the morning)

When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

When the shadows of this life have gone,

I'll fly away;

Like a bird from prison bars has flown,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

[Chorus]

I'll fly away, Oh Glory

I'll fly away; (in the morning)

When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

Just a few more weary days and then,

I'll fly away;

To a land where joy shall never end,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

[Chorus]

I'll fly away, Oh Glory

I'll fly away; (in the morning)

When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,

I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

This was my mom's favorite gospel song (mine,too).

One Way lyrics

Artist - Hillsong United

Album - More Than Life

Lyrics - One Way

I lay my life down at your feet

You're the only one I need

I turn to You and You were always there

In trouble time is you I seek

I put you first thats all I'll need

I humble all I am, all to you

You are always always there

every how and everywhere

Your grace abounds so deeply within me

You wil never ever change

Yesterday today the same

Forever'til forever meets no end

One way Jesus, You're the only onethat I could live for

One way,Jesus,you're the only that I could live for

You are the way the truth and the life

We live by faith and no t by sight,for you

We're living all for you

This is a very old one.

"Beulah Land"

I’ve reached the land of corn and wine,

And all its riches freely mine;

Here shines undimmed one blissful day,

For all my night has passed away.

Refrain:

O Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land,

As on thy highest mount I stand,

I look away across the sea,

Where mansions are prepared for me,

And view the shining glory shore,

My heav’n, my home forevermore!

My Savior comes and walks with me,

And sweet communion here have we;

He gently leads me by His hand,

For this is Heaven’s borderland.

A sweet perfume upon the breeze,

Is borne from ever vernal trees,

And flow’rs that never fading grow

Where streams of life forever flow.

The zephyrs seem to float to me,

Sweet sounds of Heaven’s melody,

As angels with the white-robed throng

Join in the sweet redemption song.

I love Hymnal songs. There's just something about those older songs that really have power behind them. Here are two of my favorite older songs. I love the last verse in the praise song "I Saw The Light" because I was saved a few years ago, then I backslid and recently gave my life again to Christ and I'm proof that He is a God of more than one chance. I love the second verse in the second song. It really does explain how my heart feels. Very personal

I Saw The Light

I wandered so aimless, life filled with sin;

I wouldn't ask my dear Saviour in.

Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night;

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

(Chorus)

I saw the light, I saw the light.

No more darkness; no more night.

Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight.

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

Just like a blind man I wandered alone,

Worries and fears I claimed for my own.

Then like the blind man that Jesus gave back his sight;

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

(Chorus)

I saw the light, I saw the light.

No more darkness; no more night.

Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight.

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

I was a fool to wander astray,

For straight is the gate and narrow is the way.

Now I have traded the wrong for the right;

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

(Chorus)

I saw the light, I saw the light.

No more darkness; no more night.

Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight.

Praise the Lord, I saw the light!

As the Deer

As the deer panteth for the water,

So my soul longs after you.

You alone are my hearts desire,

And I long to worship You.

(Chorus)

You alone are my strength, my shield;

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my hearts desire,

and I long to worship You.

I want you more than gold or silver,

Only You can satisfy.

You alone are the real joy giver

And the apple of my eye.

(Chorus)

You alone are my strength, my shield;

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my hearts desire,

and I long to worship You.

You're my friend and You're my brother,

Even though you are a King.

I love You more than any other

So much more than anything.

(Chorus)

You alone are my strength, my shield;

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my hearts desire,

and I long to worship You.

That "As a Deer" touched me Gamera, thanks.

Here is a feature segway tune which plays at 1:15 pm (PT) Mon through Fri on my Christian Radio Station (please listen along online [free] with me)

The faith on which you stand is just as strong as its foundation,

if its on the Rock the winds of life wont blow it down.

But if it's built upon the sand, when the storm comes you'll be shaken;

you'll be looking for a place to stand on solid ground.

But if you build your faith before the walls start breaking, build your faith before the Earth starts shaking, build your faith before the storm gets out of control...

if you build your faith upon Gods foundation then you'll still be standing when the storm is breaking, build your faith on the Lord and you'll have peace in your soul.

WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilage to carry

Ev'rything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Ev'rything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged,

Take it to the Lord in prayer:

Can we find a friend so faithful

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus Knows our every weakness,

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Saviour, still our refuge;

Take it to the Lord in prayer:

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer;

In His arms He'll take and shield thee;

Thou wilt find a solace there.

:dude: Cool Gamera, the songs play!

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,

The emblem of suffering and shame;

And I love that old cross where the dearest and best

For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,

Has a wondrous attraction for me;

For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above

To bear it to dark Calvary.

Refrain

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,

A wondrous beauty I see,

For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,

To pardon and sanctify me.

Refrain

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;

Its shame and reproach gladly bear;

Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,

Where His glory forever I’ll share.

Refrain

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

I SAW THE LIGHT

I wondered so aimless, life filled with sin

I wouldn't let my dear savior in

Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night

Praise the Lord, I saw the light.

Choras:

I saw the light, I saw the light

No more darkness no more night

Now I'm so happy, no sorrows in sight

praise the Lord, I saw the light.

Just like a blind man, I wondered alone

Worries and fears I claimed for my own

Then like the blind man who God gave back his site

Praise the Lord, I saw the light

Chorus

I was a fool to wander and stray

Straight is the gate and narrow the way

Now I have traded the wrong for the right

Praise the Lord, I saw the light.

Chorus:

I'M GOING HOME SOMEDAY

I have no silver and no gold, no earthly mansions do I own

But I have peace, wonderful peace in my soul

I have no fear what man can do the Lord I serve will take me through

Someday, some wonderful day, I'm going home.

Chorus:

I'm going home someday to a city far away

Where two loved ones will be waiting on the shore

The Pearly Gates will open wide, oh what joy to step inside

Someday, wonderful day, I'm going home.

The Savior paid the price for me on day up there on Calvary

He broke the bands on the cross and set me free

Up there I'll look upon His face and thank Him for his saving grace

Someday, wonderful day, I'm going home.

Chorus:

More great gospel songs I can remember singing in Church back home.

The one song that's always been a personal favorite of mine is "Peace in the Valley" by Elvis, specifically the version that he sang on the Ed Sullivan show.

Peace In The Valley

Elvis Presley

(Thomas Dorsey)

Oh well, I'm tired and so weary

But I must go alone

Till the lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh yes

Well the morning's so bright

And the lamp is alight

And the night, night is as black as the sea, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day

There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray

There'll be no sadness, no sorrow

No trouble, trouble I see

There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

Well the bear will be gentle

And the wolves will be tame

And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes

And the beasts from the wild

Shall be lit by a child

And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day

There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray

There'll be no sadness, no sorrow

No trouble, trouble I see

There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

Jesus Loves Me This I Know For The Bible Tells Me So.

I do not mind sharing my christian beliefs and I hope this forum is not offending anyone who does not share those same beliefs. I and I think everyone here respects those with different beliefs.

I heard this on the movie "The Color Purple" and loved it instantly.

This is southern gospel music at it's finest.The people singing it on the movie had that little church hopping. :dude:

"Maybe God is tryin' to tell you something"

Yes, yes, yes, yes, Lord, yes

Oh, yes, my soul, my soul says yes

If I were you, I would say yes, speak, Lord. Speak to me.

Oh, Speak, Lord. Won't you speak to me?

I was so blind, I was so lost until you spoke to me

Oh, speak, Lord. Speak, Lord. And hear my mind,

Oh, with your word, heal my soul

Oh, speak, Lord. Speak to me. Speak, my Lord.

I love you, Lord. Save my soul

Can't sleep at night and you wonder why

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Crying all night long, something's gone wrong

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Oh, you can't sleep at night and you sure wonder why

Maybe god is trying to tell you something

Trying, trying, trying, trying, I'm trying, I'm trying, I'm trying

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Maybe God is trying to tell you something

Lord, He's got to tell you something

Lord, He's got to tell you something. I hear you, Lord

Maybe God is trying to tell you right now, right now

I'm gonna praise your name

I praise your name

Speak to me, Lord

Maybe God is trying to tell you something right now, right now,

Right now

Thank you, Lord

Maybe God is trying to tell you something right now

Right now, right now. Thank you, Lord

The Carter Family

"Angel Band"

The latest sun is sinking fast, my race is nearly run

My strongest trials now are past, my triumph is begun

O come Angel Band, come & around me stand

O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

I know I'm near the holy ranks of friends & kindred dear

I've brushed the dew on Jordan's banks, the crossing must be near

I've almost gained my Heavenly home, my spirit loudly sings

The Holy ones, behold they come, I hear the noise of wings

O bear my longing heart to Him who bled & died for me

Whose blood now cleanses from all sin & gives me victory

DELTA DAWN

by Helen Reddy

(maybe not a song you hear often in church...but gospel,nonetheless....)

CHORUS

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?

Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

And did I hear you say he was a-meetin' you here today

To take you to his mansion in the sky?

She's forty-one and her daddy still calls 'er "baby"

All the folks 'round Brownsville say she's crazy

'cause she walks downtown with her suitcase in her hand

Lookin' for a mysterious dark-haired man

In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn

Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on

Then a man of low degree stood by her side

Promised her he'd take her for his bride

CHORUS

CHORUS

CHORUS

CHORUS
