Series: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Season: 1

Episode #: 25

Production #: 126

Episode Name: The Neutral Zone

Original Air Date: 05.16.88

While waiting for Captain Picard to return from a conference, the Enterprise encounters a satellite originating from Earth. Data requests permission to beam aboard the satellite to examine it and he and Worf discover the cryogenically frozen bodies of a number of humans from the 20th century. Only three of the capsules holding the humans are undamaged so Data has them beamed to the Enterprise where they are revived by Dr. Crusher.

In the midst of having to deal with these passengers from the past, the Enterprise is called to the Neutral Zone for a confrontation with the Romulans.

This was actually Marc Alaimo's second appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation although his first appearance was uncredited. He played an Antican character named Badar N'D'D in Lonely Among Us. He made two more appearances on TNG (Gul Macet in The Wounded and Frederick LaRouque in Time's Arrow, Part I) before taking the role he became best known to Trek fans - Gul Dukat on DS9.

I liked this episode.

Granted, the "cowboy" they unfroze was a little annoying, but I can live with that.

It reminded me of the "Khan" thing, where people are found in stasis, albeit these three people weren't evil.

More important however is the main story brings back the Romulans into Star Trek, and also mentions the destruction of the Federation and Romulan colonies by an unknown enemy.

Of course, we know who that enemy is.

The Borg.

This episode gets a rating of 3

And so concludes my reviews of Star Trek The Next Generation, Season One.
