The Enterprise is sent to Psi 2000 to pick up a science team on the frozen wasteland and observe it's disintegration. Upon beaming down the crew discovers that the science team has mysteriously died in bizarre circumstances. While investigating on the planet the crew becomes infected with a mysterious illness that makes them act as if they're drunk which spreads through the ship quickly infecting anyone that comes in contact with another infected crewman.

With the ship in danger and the infection rapidly spreading throughout the crew Captain Kirk must regain control of the engine room and Doctor McCoy must quickly find a cure for the mysterious illness.

Note: This episode was referenced in Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Naked Now" when a similar infection strikes that crew.

This episode started out tremendously. Tormolen was wonderfully portrayed. I absolutely loved Uhura and Kirk's reaction to having to listen to Riley singing the entire time. Soooo funny. Spock's inner human getting out was nicely done.

It started to drag just a little bit at the end though. Compounding the problem with the engines seems to me as just a ploy to fill time that they couldn't sell in commercials. Overall still a 4 though.

As were most of the 1st season episodes, this one was great. The Trek regulars really got to show off their acting chops. This was also the basis of the 2nd TNG episode, "The Naked Now"..........when they had already ran out of ideas after the pilot episode.......... ;)

A good ep. Bonus points for cool plot and Sulu doing his D'artagnan impersonation on the bridge. I think this is the ep where the bond between Kirk and Spock really began to form.

I like your thoughts Good Point!

Scotty doesn't need a virus to get drunk! Oh... and TNG also used Star Trek: Phase II episodes such as "The Child" and "Devils Due" (Star Trek: Phase II was a proposed television series, but instead they made The Motion Picture, which was based off the Phase II episode "In Thy Image")

I love any episode that has a "Spock" moment in it.... And in my humble opinion, this episode contains the best Spock moment in the whole of the series....

On a scale of 1-10............ I give it a 9.0

Gave it a five. When Kirk starts professing his unconventional love for the ship, my jaw hits the floor. As it did when Sulu got all sweaty and shirtless. And the Spock moment with Nurse "Lwaxana" Chapel was beautiful. When Spock breaks down, it's quite awesome to watch Nimoy go.

if the dude kept his glove on, this story would never have happened!! What is that guy doing in Starfleet if he doesn't know to keep his protective clothes on! I guess they needed a way for the virus to get onboard, but it was stupid mistake. The rest of the episode is great though. Spock's crying scene and Sulu's sword play make this episode great, but I give it a four due to the beginning.
