Enterprise vs. Consitiution

I think I know the answer but I want to ask others too... which class does the refit Enterprise belongs to: Enterprise or Constitution? And why do you think so?

I never liked the idea that the original Enterprise would undergo such a dramatic refit and still retain it's original number and class name.

 

Starting with 1701-A right from TMP would have been a better idea.

 

Officially, the name of the class is "Constitution Refit" but I prefer the class name of"Enterprise".

Well, it's officially Constitution Refit, but perhaps it could also be known at Enterprise Subgroup, like the various variants of the Miranda class. One example would be Sisko's USS Saratoga, no roll bar and those radio dish looking things on the side. It could be Miranda, Saratoga subgroup

I love NCC-1701-A, E. and Enterprise they are so pertty starship.

 

NCC 1701-A is my favorite ship. Cuz my eyes keep look at blue light and move view the ship and warp too.

I have really never heard a refit would change the class of a ship. Ships now go through major changes when the technology improvements and it doesn't change their original number and class name. It is still the same ship that was commissioned with lots technology upgrades.

 

Take for example Nimiz Class Aircraft Carriers. If you look at USS Nimiz and compare it with USS Harry S. Truman, I was station on, they are very different ships. The Truman is a much large ship with a longer fight deck and is much taller island. There are also host of other changes that I can't post here. With all the differences USS Harry S. Truman is still a Nimiz Class Aircraft Carrier. It takes a major change in the whole ship to change the class. To change in class starts from when the ship is built.

The E-Refit was for most purposes an almost full rebuild (Ok so that's non-cannon "Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise"), how ever as it was said in TUDC the plans Scotty is looking at say "Consitition Refit".

What defines a ship class in Star Trek are several things: Basic hull geometrics, Mission Profile, Secondary Mission Profile, and crew compliment. if you look at the Enterprise in TOS and then in ST: TMP, they have the same basic hull geometrics. the major differences were advancements in the Deflector Dish, the aft hull, and the warp engines. So, even though she was refitted, she was still a Constitution-class. It is, however, likely she was upgraded from, say, a Constitution Baseline 1 to a Constitution Baseline 2. (Baseline variants are used in the US Navy to differentiate between certain groups of ships in a specific class that may have slightly different capabilities. Case in point, Ticonderoga Baseline 1, which had the goalpost missile launcher system, while Baseline 2 and later had the VLS System)

That's because the Enterprise had been reassigned as a training ship, and that class had been assigned to the Enterprise for training. It refers to the cadet class, not the ship class.

if you get a ship like the USS Hornet CVS-65 and Change the deck and stuff doesn't go into something else like:
