(When I was growing up, however, I assure you this wasn't the case.) They wanted to be actresses, models, singers, musicians, etc. and turned to teaching as a last resort. I even know a stripper who turned to teaching even though she still has the goods. Good kisser too. Teaching is the one job anyone with a college degree can get with just one more year of education, and it isn't even a very hard year. The pay sucks but it is enough to live on. He Who Shall Not Be Named 2 Posted September 22, 2010 Let's be honest about the reason why. Teaching is not an easy job but it is a job that most people could do if they had to. At any given time there are more people with teaching credentials (or in subjects that don't require credentialing) than positions available. The distribution isn't even, and there are some geographic areas where there are shortages, but usually when you hear of shortages it is the powerful teacher's union creating a false shortage by making it difficult to hire.
