Takara_Soong 4 Posted December 30, 2004 I've read so many threads where mention is made of someone famous being a Trekkie/Trekker. I thought it was time we put together a list so we have "ammunition" to throw back at people who try to make fun of us. You know what I mean - if you think I'm dumb because I'm a Trekkie then you must think "insert name" is dumb too. Hopefully the name you insert will be someone the naysayer really likes or looks up to. I'll start with a few off the top of my head but I want you guys to add names. Colin Powell Dahlai Lama Tom Hanks Dr. Mae Jamieson Neil Armstrong Jean Simmons (actress) Paul Sorvino Mira Sorvino (strongly suspect she is) Berkeley Breathed (cartoonist - Opus, Bloom County) Bill Amend (cartoonist - Fox Trot) Seth McFarlane (creator of Family Guy) Bill Gates Al Gore Eddie Murphy I'm sure I missed quite a few as I was just going from memory so add away. DrWho42 13 Posted December 30, 2004 Mmm, these are some that I suspect are Trek[kies/kers]. • Stephen Hawking • Scott Adams [Creator of Dilbert]. • Douglas Adams [Author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy]. • Isaac Asimov. • Marty McFly. • Laurell K. Hamilton [Fantasy author]. That's 'bout all for right now... I know that Bill Clinton likes Lost in Space though. B)

Data 0 Posted December 31, 2004 Matt Stone and Trey Parker (Creators of South Park) 293657 OOps, somebody said that already. By the way, they have a whole episode which is a takeoff of "Dagger of the Mind". The South Park episode's name was something like Roger Ebert should Layoff Fatty Foods. Matt and Trey are Trekkies big time.
Jack_Bauer 1 Posted December 31, 2004 Ben Stiller Conan O'Brien (from what he was saying to Shatner) Kirstie Alley (has anyone said her?) Tom Bergeron An interesting aside about Matt Groening is that he has never seen a TOS episode all the way through. King Abdullah of Jordan apparently appears in Investigations as a sciences crewman. He has no lines as he is not a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Why can't more of them appear on the show? The ratings would soar if someone like Tom Hanks was on. Takara_Soong 4 Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) Here's the updated list: Colin Powell Dahlai Lama Tom Hanks Dr. Mae Jamieson Neil Armstrong Jean Simmons (actress) Paul Sorvino Mira Sorvino (strongly suspect she is) Berkeley Breathed (cartoonist - Opus, Bloom County) Bill Amend (cartoonist - Fox Trot) Seth McFarlane (creator of Family Guy) Bill Gates Al Gore Eddie Murphy Jason Alexander Dr. Stephen Hawking Scott Adams (cartoonist - Dilbert) Isaac Asimov Laurell K. O'Bannon Charles M. Schulz King Abdullah of Jordan Vin Diesel John Glenn Mel Gibson Sally Ride Mick Fleetwood James Worthy Bebe Neuworth Kelsey Grammer Tom Morello Martin Luther King Jr. Arthur C. Clarke Rod Serling Trey Parker Matt Stone Howard Stern Will smith Iggy pop Ben Stiller Conan O'Brien Kirstie Alley Tom Bergeron WEAREBORG (I think it was you), are you sure about Ashley Judd. I know she was on TNG a few times but they were one of her first acting jobs so she isn't like other "stars" who appeared in the series. Has she said she's a Trek fan or were you assuming it because she was on TNG. No fictional characters though please. Dr. Who, I'm assuming when you named Marty McFly you meant the character from the Back to the Future movies and not a real person or did you mean his portrayer, Michael J. Fox?. BTW, I didn't include Barbara Adams in the list as, IMO, she's more infamous than famous. For those who don't recognize her name, she was the Whitewater juror who was featured in Trekkies. IMO, she is the type who lead to the negative stereotype that this list is fighting. Edited January 16, 2005 by Takara_Soong

I don't mind. 293682 I was just wondering. I haven't read anything about her being a Trek fan so I was curious if you had. We need to remember if someone who is now famous appeared in Trek before they were famous it that may have been just a job to them. Others you mentioned, such as Mick Fleetwood and Whoopi Goldberg, were already famous and asked to be guests on the show. I'll keep Ashley Judd on unless someone has information that she says she isn't/wasn't a Trek fan. ::insert sound of evil laugh:: HA Ha, Trekkers and Trekkies have infiltrated important positions in human society, and no one even knows!! 293684 Ain't that the truth!!! Theunicornhunter 2 Posted December 31, 2004 I remember Kevin Newman who did a short stint as host of Good Morning America was a trekkie (I don't know what happened to him - I think he has gone back to Canada) And, I don't see Richard Dean Anderson on the list, Anderson, star and executive producer of Stargate SG1, thinks it would be cool for the SG1 team to go to another world and find an "away team" on the planet. He Who Shall Not Be Named 2 Posted December 31, 2004 You should add Christian Slayter. He played the extra who woke Sulu up in The Undiscovered Country.
Jack_Bauer 1 Posted December 31, 2004 I'm pretty sure Drew Carey is a trek fan. I would suspect that Weird Al Yankovic and Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) are as well. McCormack starred in 'Free Enterprise' and Will and Grace makes occassional nods to Star Trek using McCormack's character.
