Music From The Year You Were Born

Recommended Posts

I'd love to hear some of the songs that were popular the year I was born. Is there somewhere on the Web where you can find out? O.K., if you can find out, put up the top 5, ok, and then tell me where to go :P  I don't mean it like that :P :P

Hmm, you could always search Billboard charts. I am sure they have stuff online to search.

EDIT: though it seems if you go to Billboard.com you can only access stuff if you are a subscriber.

1984 was, IMO, the best year ever for music. There are so many songs from that year that I still love and listen to.

Are you sure 1984 wasn't the best year for music VBG? Lovin-Wink.gif

The fans kept right on buying Alabama's albums, too. "Feels So Right" and "Mountain Music" were certified triple platinum in 1984, "Roll On" and "The Closer You Get" were certified double platinum. One of their #1 singles that year, "If You're Gonna Play In Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle In The Band)" is considered one of the most important singles released that year and became one of the all-time most covered tunes by other groups.

The album "Feels So Right" was from 1981 and "Mountian Music" was from 1982, they made triple platinum in '84 but they were made in '81 and '82. "The Closer You Get" was in '83 and then in '84 they made "Roll On".

Of those Albums I think "The Closer You Get" from '83 is my overall favorite, though one of their greatest songs came from "Mountain Music" and is the title song. Don't get me wrong "Roll On" was a great album, but without "Feels So Right", "Mountain Music" and "The Closer You Get" it might not have been a significant album in the history of music.

I could take you through the 50's, 60's and 70's and give a lot more music that would be considered better then the music of '84. But that's not to say the music of '84 was bad.

By the way, the first ever "Non Elvis" album I ever owned was "The Closer You Get".

LOL Well I've been a fan since 1980 when I was in 6th Grade, and I have all of their Albums and probably know the words to just about every song on each of those albums. Back when there was no internet music was a big thing for me and my friends, though I was the only one that liked Country.

The first Alabama concert I went to was on their "Closer You Get" Tour, then I went to a show the following year on their "Roll On" tour. And as some may remember I just went to their "Fairwell Tour" last August. I believe Amy's been to 3 shows in the past year, she'd have to confirm that though.
