DS9 link to Enterprise?

Recommended Posts

Yes it is an ancestor of the NX-01. Not because it's an akira class... but simply because it's a starfleet vessel. All starfleet vessels are ancestors of the first one - the NX-01!

Uhh..that's an Akira class, VaBeachGuy.

Cool picture though.

Yes, but could it have been the inspiration for the design of the NX-01 model?

Here's a better shot

Oh, I definitely think the Akira design inspired the design of the NX-01. Hence the nickname 'Akiraprise'. I have no problem with the choice to base the NX-01 on the Akira. I love the Akira design and it seems a logical design when a ship has no engineering hull.

Also, wouldn't all Starfleet ships be descendants of the NX-01 instead of ancestors?

I suppose it is an ancestor of the design for the NX-01 in our world but it is a descendant in the Star Trek universe. Whoa, another paradox.

I'm also one of those "Akiraprise" folks. Yes, the design of the NX was heavily based on that of the Akira, due to the runaway popularity of the Akira after the release of First Contact - it quickly became the favorite starship design of the majority of Trek fans.

I'll admit, I, like many others, was a bit peeved when I first saw the NX (thinking it was an Akira rip-off), since the Akira and Excelsior are my two favorite designs, but I got used to it after a little while.

Akira: designed by Alex Jaeger to be a "gunship/battlecruiser/aircraft carrier" (15 torpedo launchers)

-First seen in First Contact (U.S.S. Thunderchild and others)

-DS9 "TotP" and a few other eps

-VOY "Message in a Bottle" (possibly "Endgame" as well; don't recall)

Yes I do remeber seen a akria in end game because I remeber that one admiral freeking out and than I see a galaxy class ship and a akria ship next to it and I see one escorting the VOY to earth.

Umm...... Just a Little Something you should know.

ancestor is the something which something descends from...

example..... your grandfather is your ancestor, not the other way around.

Just to clear things up, when I used the term ancestor I was referring to the design of the model used in the show not the timeline.

Correction, All starfleet vessels are predecessors of the enterprise.

Un fortunately, in actuality the Enterprise was based on the Akira class. However, in the timeline of Trek the Akira class would be based on the Enterprise due to the years of both.

Correct but I don't see what's so unfortunate about it. I'm not all into ship designs but I love the continuity factor of basing the NX-01 on previously seen ship. If I were a new comer to Trek then in the course of watching all the series in order I would be pleasantly surprised to see the later version of a previous lineage. I don't understand what the "Akiraprise" squawk is all about. :P

A lot of people seem stuck on the word "Ancestor". The point of the post was to point out the similarities of the 2 ships.

I too never really paid close attention to different classes of ships (other then the main 2 or 3 designs) and was only making a reference to the design of the models being used in the television production.

By unfortunate, I just ment it was unfortunate that the relationship of the ships in their respective design lineage was wrong. But I understand what was ment now.

i am quite disappointed with the fact that they stole the "AKIRA" design.

How did they "steal" the Akira design? It is owned by Paramount.

I liked the idea of using a ship design that has one similar in the future of the timeline. It allows us to see that the ships did progress and it may also show that in the future the Akira design may have been created by a ship designer that had a flair for historic ships in which he would have created the ship design to honor the NX-01

Something I noticed from the final episode of season 6, could this be an ancestor of the NX-01?

PDVD_673.JPG

That's an Akira-class ship, designed for Star Trek: First Contact as one of four new (as in we haven't seen them before) ship designs. 3 of those four were used in DS9, including the Akira-class which also appeared on VOY a few times. Due to popularity among fans, the producers decided that they wanted to base the NX-01 design on the Akira-class, much like how TNG's Enterprise is based on TOS's Enterprise.

If this is off topic, i apologize ahead of time. If you know trek well enough you'll know this isn't the first time a ship from the 22nd century is used, though updated, in the 24th century. Another case is the Daedalus - Olympic Class lineage, and i find it iritating that people refuse to accept the Olympic Class as a descendant of the Daedalus Class while they clearly accept the akira as a descendant of the NX-01 Enterprise. I have included a file which shows both vessels for comparison, looking at it how can 1 NOT think they're connected?

Daedalus-class has never been seen on screen. The picture you provided is a rejected design of the TOS Enterprise and will likely never be seen on screen. If it is, however, expect a complete revamp like what the Enterprise got for the movies.

You do have a point. The Olympic-class from TNG "All Good Things..." was taken from the rejected Daedalus-class idea. The NX-class is based on the Akira-class, in terms of production, but in terms of the fictional universe, the Akira-class is a tribute to the NX-class. <_<

Like this one.

USS Bozeman. Was the Original Model, Re-Vamped the USS Reliant.

The Actual Model!!!

It's easier to look at unused designs, then build one from scratch.

Umm, cap, did you forget about the model they had in Sisko's office? <_< I think that makes it pretty official.

I believe they bought a Reliant model from a model shop and modified it to be the Bozemen.

Agreed.
